AKA:
Directed by: Shane Meadows
Starring: Paddy Considine (Richard), Toby Kebbell (Anthony), Stuart Wolfenden (Herbie), Gary Stretch (Sonny), Neil Bell (Soz), Jo Hartley (Marie), Paul Sadot (Tuff)

Plot – Spoilers:
A small-time gang of drug-dealing thugs are rattled when Richard, a soldier returns to town and insists on sticking himself in their faces, over and over again. Their discomfort stems from having tormented his somewhat-retarded younger brother, a while back. When the seriousness of Richard’s bloodthirst dawns on the gang, they wonder if all their posturing is enough to handle a single, extremely driven, maniac.

Richard’s Revenge – Massive Spoilers:
Right at the end, when Richard refers to Anthony as an embarrassing spastic, he was probably speaking the truth. Maybe that’s why he packed up and left for the Army. And his self-hating guilt was turned towards the perpetrators in an attempt to deflect blame.

Excellent low budget film with improvised dialogue which made it very realistic. The twist near the end regarding the younger brother was a total surprise. So how did the guy seeking revenge know who to target?
It’s easy to assume that a witness not seen in the movie told him, alternatively the young brother could have been sending letters to his older brother explaining what he was going through and naming those responsible right up to his sad end. A movie doesn’t have to reveal every little detail.

The movie made less sense because of that stupid twist in the 3th act that Anthony killed himself. If he was dead he couldn’t have told his brother who mistreated him like he did at the start. Otherwise the movie was ok, a bit boring in the 1st act.

A great revenge film. It explores the cost of how chasing revenge can change you (the best film on this theme being I Saw The Devil imo which is on this site) and has a gut punch of an ending. Throw in people living a bleak life dealing with the guilt of what has occurred in different ways, and you have a great little film. Highly recommended. A solid 4/5 gas masks

Great movie. incredibly sad. Loved it all thru, especially the silly car, what a gas. Yes, I had the same buffer prob at the end. never had that prob before, so I wonder what gives with this one. Don’t matter, I still loved it. Thank’s as always Effedup, you made my day again…

Fantastic..
Seen it years ago and needed to reappraise it .

South Yorkshire is just like this … Drifting.. bit sad… Gloomy and sometimes sunny…
Like the film…
A genuine portrayal of people settings and scenes. . . Scary and violent in the right parts. .. a fantastic film with a slightly just ever so slightly indulgent sound track. .

EVEN BIGGER SPOILER
reviewer missed the most important part of the story. Richard’s autistic brother is dead. This is a big part of his PTSD. Watch again and you’ll see that his brother never interacts with anyone as only Richard can see him.

This is my favorite movie of all time, with Good Time (2017) being a close second along with Lilya 4-Ever (2002)

Great movie until the last 2 minutes. Totally implausible. I still like this movie very much but a little more thought should have gone in to the ending to make this movie really remarkable.

I am absolutely loving this movie, but, HOLY SHIT, is the buffering killing the climax of this movie for me so much that I paused it to type this. I usually have minor buffer issues with this site, but this one is stopping to buffer every 3-5 seconds right at what’s supposed to be the most moving part of the movie, which is annoying me to no end. It’s definitely neither my computer, nor my Internet connection. If there’s anything the admins can do to reduce this in the future, that would be awesome because this is getting old. Big wack.

How low was the budget that they couldn’t hire a proper car for drug dealers? What kind of gangster drives 2CV?

shane meadows and paddy considine produce something here that is equally frightening, mundane, depressing but always compelling
music is spot on despite some misguided comments above

Yay, THANKS A TON FOR ADDING ONE OF MY REQUESTED TITLES ADMINS!!! Awesome work, as always. Am still waiting on Pig Pen tho, hint hint lol;)

Really thought this was an epic film in its own right, not extremly ‘effed up’ compared to some of the titles on here, but still pretty fucked up for a revenge style movie, due in part to the powerful story/ actors, as well as the films nihilistic n depressing message. When the protagonist says his brother was a fucking embarrassment near the end of the movie I found that to be incredibly sad, gut punch status, imo.

Seen it a few times, loved the film, I’d give it a solid 8.5/10

Moral: Don’t be cruel to people who r mentally less fortunate than yourself, and if u see someone doing it to others, hurt them.

FYI The Cheyne Stokes tag that’s spray painted on the wall in one scene refers to the ‘death rattle’ breathing ppl have right before they die. Some intense foreshadowing right there

Decent low budget film, but the subtitles are very inaccurate in places, I guess the Northern English accent is hard to understand if you are from these parts lol
