Death Scenes (1989)

No one cared thus far. Do you?

AKA: Death Scenes 1
Directed by: Nick Bougas
Starring: Anton LaVey
Country: USA; Effed Up American Cinema
Language: English
Runtime: 01:26:33
Genres: Documentary, Gore-Gruesome-Splatter, Killers, SelfHarm-Suicide

Plot – Spoilers:
Anton LaVey hosts the first in what would later become a series – black-and-white images from ’30s and ’40s America featuring inventive ways people have killed themselves, murders, salacious Hollywood gossip, killers, accidents including some freak ones and murdered children.

Maybe it’s the nostalgia of it, but in an era where color-deaths are constantly thrust at you, there is a certain charm in the b&w stills. Death Scenes is relentless as it runs through hundreds of deaths, rarely taking a breather

Don’t blame me, Fred. I took a shot at you with my sniper rifle and missed. It was someone else who knocked you off.

Is it possible for a film to be classic yet underrated at the same time? I think that this is a prime example of that being true. The vintage in these pictures is in someways more disturbing than they would be in color. The whole eerie vibe that accompanies black and white just brings a reality to it that falls dead on the ears of the post-internet world, but it’s true just the same (I tread lightly on mentioning titles on here,. But go watch a certain B&W Scorsese film about boxing and compare it with rocky to get the jest of what I am saying). This
shockumentary is good on it’s own merit. But it definitely wouldn’t be as good without Uncle Anton’s
Narration/presentation. The dark, noir ambiance, the opening up of the “good old days” exposing the hemorrhaging wound on the underbelly of the “xtian moral compass” era of American society, the rareness of the selected pics, the fact that this is an early entry into the genre, (and of course, Anton Lavey)
all come together to make
An excellent film! Great job Effeduo admins!

Rocky was the better film, it was the first to use a steady cam, the boxing angles were unique at the time. Plus done on a budget of nearly nothing by a first time director. Slow-mo-Bl-n-Wh did look good but was probably one the more duller films of scorsese.
Plenty of films done in b&w I could mention but ..SIr Henry at Rawlinson End.. would not have been as charming in colour.

I would have to (respectfully) disagree with your take on Rocky.
I remember when it came out and looked just as Hollywood then as it does now. Still a good movie and fucking Stallone, good as he was in that role, paled in comparison to Meridith!

US has the biggest market of child porn in the world. Not forgetting that both twitter and facebook business plans rely on advertising that is costed by usage figures and driven by a very healthy grooming of children. FB is second most popular place for groomers. The US tops both demand and supply. Even going back in history, Frank Sinatra did the round robin with his friends and a very young Natalie Wood. As he had not invited Kirk Douglas, kirk just raped her so bad she needed hospital treatment.

I will give you the uber sex pest of Klaus Kinski who more or less openly admitted to fucking his daugters but mostly when it comes to pedo behaviour the world looks to the US

And you know all about this because, why? Shopping? Looking to do some grooming?

BTW, you’re wrong, sugar pudding. Quit making shit up and leave the kids alone.

Actually it’s Russia and Eastern Europe, derp. Then the middle East…. and then…. wait for it…. WESTERN EUROPE. The U.S., Japan and Australia are seeing marked increases, however. And China…. Well, fuck China. And their goddamn virus.

Now,, at 41:01 they discuss “an ill-fated homosexual encounter.” You make sure to pay attention. It could save you life.

Susan Atkins said that as soon as he opened his mouth he sounded like he spoke from an echo chamber and you can hear it on here. Which I personally like.

o/t Having difficulty in which film to watch in tribute to ONJ: Toomorrow is a bit clunky, Grease to obvious and Xanadu is sentimental. If only she had done a hard core porn slasher then my choice would have been so much easier.

This was a really fascinating watch. I liked all the early film era deaths and prohibition era murder. Could have probably skipped the part with all the little kids though… :-/ My bad, i’ll just have to block that one out later.

Good, interesting documentary, but I do believe SATAN is taking certain liberties with case information. Particularly with Jean Harlow and Paul Bern. For one, she died of kidney failure. It had nothing to do with any injuries she sustained 7 years prior. And I sure wish these neophyte film makers would learn how to mix their sound. Easing the BACKGROUND music down a couple notches will bring up the narration.
