Plot – Spoilers:
Randle McMurphy is sent from a work-farm to a mental institution to be evaluated for looniness. The doctors believe he’s been faking crazy, to be let off the backbreaking work at the farm. Randle himself cockily thinks the institute is an entertaining place to see out his prison sentence among all the crazies, who seem a nice source of voyeuristic fun.
A few things however get in Randle’s way. Nurse Ratched who runs the place seems to be a sadist who enjoys controlling the patients. This triggers Randle who has already begun to feel sympathy and empathy for the inmates. But soon a terrifying reality dawns on Randle – he actually isn’t there to complete his sentence. Rather, he is there for the system to decide whether he can ever be a free man again.
One of the greatest films ever made, with near-perfect everything, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest is a tragic illustration of getting broken.

The opening shot of ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO’S NEST is a bleak glance at an Oregon morning. Stirring, haunting music plays gracefully on the soundtrack and a car approaches. Inside the car is one of film history’s most remarkable characters. “Randle McMurphy” is about to bring hope, humor, and a glimmer of reality to some disturbed people in a mental hospital. Jack Nicholson as “McMurphy”, is something of a paradox. Is this guy crazy or is he really the lazy, conniving criminal most believe him to be? That is the magical mystery and start to a journey into mental illness and the effect this man will have on some truly messed up men. Milos Forman directs this all-time classic, which swept the Oscars deservedly, and holds up so well 25 years later. It is a simplistic film about small people living in their own small worlds. Manic moments are mixed with poignant acting all leading to an astounding climax. Not before or since CUCKOO’S NEST has a collection of different characters had such an impact on me. You could write a book report about each of the patients in the ward. The two most important people here are, of course, Jack Nicholson and Louise Fletcher. Awesome film! Jack Nicholson is a great actor and so versatile. Loved him in ” The Shining ”, he was scary as fuck in it and ” The Last Detail ” where he was funny as fuck in that. Agree its not effed up as far as gore goes, but its sad, funny and hilarious and well acted. I will rewatch this again.

This movie made me think of myself … I had the opportunity to go to an insane asylum for 1 month because my parents thought I was crazy. With the origin of drug use All the time I was in the hospital. I know myself that I’m not crazy. I have never taken any medication prescribed by my doctor. I used to break the drug by myself. And correct the state of mind by reading books The days have passed. Now, I am a graduate of my master’s degree and I am a teacher at elementary school. P.S. Neither my parents nor the medical team truly understand us. Equal to ourselves !!
