Plot – Spoilers:
In Switzerland, a young medical student Herbert West is accused of attempting to revive his dead professor using a serum he invented based on the prof’s research. After some time in therapy, West arrives in the US to continue his medical studies and joins the class of Dan Cain. Dan is a brilliant student who is seeing the dean’s daughter Megan and kind of has his life chalked out. But after meeting West, Dan feels himself paling in comparison and starts fanboying much to Megan’s discomfort who finds West creepy. There’s also a famous surgeon and inventor Dr Hill at the med school who dislikes West after he called him out as a fraud and plagiarist. When he’s not hating his students, Hill is busy lusting after Megan and waiting for the right moment…
Favorite Scene
After Megan is brought in by her zombie Dad, Dr Hill’s head watches her with rising pleasure and eventually gurgles out bubbles of lust through the blood in the tray.
A horror B movie classic.

I love this movie, especially the end scene when Megan is being molested by the Doctor Herbert -so funny!
Phenomenal film. Fun fact, there is a current community of transgender men who adore Herbert West. For whatever reason, they feel represented by him. People are fascinating.

This movie is a true classic horror gem. Yeahyeah it’s not perfect, it may be the wrong place to say, but I feel like the weird sexual obsession between Hill and Meg was very weird, not that I mind… reverse necrophilia, but I wished the movie either built it up better or dropped it because it feels half-assed.
Otherwise it’s mostly great, outstanding perfomances, decent directing, truly servicable cinamatography, and you gotta love the practical effects, I wish they did that more these days.
I read the original Lovecraft story too, and while that is worth a read if you can stomach the unneccissary racism, and strange serialized formatting full of recaps, I feel like the movie is a more definitive work. Cresit to H.P for the idea, but it was long considdered one of his worst, but the film truly brought it back from the dead so to say.
