Plot – Spoilers:
Taxidermia is broadly a three segment movie about 3 men across three generations.
The first segment set during the 2nd World War, centers on a pathetically lonely and oppressed soldier Morosgovanyi, who is effectively a slave to his Lieutenant master and family at a remote outpost. Morosgovanyi, when he’s not performing menial tasks in the bitter cold, spends his time indulging in sexual deviations including burning himself with a candle flame, humping the carcass of a pig, voyeuristic ogling at the Lieutenant’s daughters, and pedophilic fantasies.
The second segment moves to his son – unclear if it’s his or the Lieutenant’s son because of the bizarre pig tail it’s born with. Anyway, this guy makes a career out of being a pig and is a national champion at speed eating gargantuan quantities of food. He later ironically sires a pale and skinny boy who grows up to be a master taxidermist. The 3rd segment is about this father-son duo and has one of the most weird ideas ever imagined, as its climax.
Favorite Scenes – Spoilers:
1. Morosgovanyi masturbating to the Lieutenant’s daughters and getting his cock pecked by an idle cock is hilariously sad.
2. The self-taxidermy by Lajoska:
Having attached himself to some sort of a heart-lung contraption and with the use of all sorts of chemicals and preservatives, watching him neatly carve out his internals and organs is almost aesthetically pleasing. The lack of gore against the clean and precise incisions makes it a riveting watch.

On a scale of 1 to 10 in the fucked up category it gets a 12. Not a film you want to watch while you are eating supper.
It reminds me of a true story that happened at a bar I used to go to. There was this fat lady that used to go to the bar and she would stuff her face with spaghetti and meatballs and pound down gallons of beer and booze every night. One night she stood up and said rather loudly “My stomach hurts!” The baby didn’t make a sound until it hit the bar room floor.
“Taxidermia” is a pretty interesting film in a sort of bizarre black comedy kind of way. I’m going to give it just a cunt hair over 3 and a half stars.
We Hungarians didn’t make too much horror movies, but this excellent film. However it has a way deeper meaning behind the brutal and explicit images, it shows the impact of generations on each other and it searches for the reasons why gaps developed between these generations. It’s a very clever and meaningful movie actually with a deep message.
Banger alert. This one is a gem. It’s all about the third act. Cool song at the end too. Masterpiece.

i was mostly confused. the 3 segments weren’t homogeneous, and the mood changed with each one. the directing could have made more sense. some good scenes and ideas tho.

Damn, I’ve known about this movie for about ten years now, finally watched it. Can’t say I’m disappointed. First part is hilarious, second part is gross but also I love the 60s aesthetic, last part is quite sad and unpredictable. Kocham Madziarów :d

As a taxidermist I really enjoyed this movie, the scenes where Lajoska is shown skinning both the animals and himself are almost exactly as they really are and the attention to detail is what sells it. I love the parallels between himself and Michelangelo’s David sculpture. It’s a little cliché but does lead the viewer to liken his body to a work of art whether they are repulsed or intrigued. The movie was long and didn’t make much sense at first but is worth the watch. The beginning is honestly a bit silly but you can’t help but root for the poor horndog Morosgoványi. Fair warning the whole second act revolves around vomit. Like super casual team mates vomiting together while they still carry on a conversation. Yep I’m gonna say a it will probably make you laugh more than feel horror other than for their poor binge eating stomaches. 4/5 stars and thank you again effedupmovies ❤️

I had to quit watching.. I guess it’s because of my deep prejudice against fat people. I cant fucking stand them. Especially when there constantly shoveling food into there fat fucking faces.. and there is plenty of it in this movie!
