Efterskalv (2015)

Option 1Can't Watch?

Wait 30secs. Movie still not playing? Click the "Can't Watch?" tab.

If the movie didn't load, it means you are being blocked by a security service we use. This can happen for a number of reasons.

Click this first

A new tab will open and a basic security check like a captcha will be performed. After completing the check, close that page and return here.

Refresh this page. Wait 30 secs. The movie should load and you can just hit play.

If it still doesn't play, Click here to watch the movie

The movie should now start playing in a new tab of your browser or begin downloading to your device. This option has the minor disadvantage that English-language movies with optional subtitles in the movie player will not include these subs with this method.

The new system here has been designed keeping in mind even people with low internet speeds sub-8mbps. Even if you have a really bad connection, you should still be able to watch the movie without any issues if you:
Start the movie. Pause it. Wait for 30-45 seconds. Start playing again.

This 'Can't Watch' method really only works if it's your specific device/browser that's interfering with the player. There is no real advantage of speed here. Or if there is a temp network glitch or read lag from the server disk.

If you're still having problems, try using 'Incognito mode' in your browser. On iPhones, especially older ones, use Chrome instead of Safari. Might help.

IMPORTANT: Please make sure that the newly opened tab is not an ad popup asking you to download some software or whatever. Close any such popups and don't download any software - those are ads. Nothing is needed to be done by you other than to complete the security check which is often automated.

Plot – Spoilers:
A young offender, John, has done two years for his crime and is picked up from juvie by his awkwardly-welcoming, but friendly father. The drive home to their farm in a small Swedish village yields an early instance of Dad having strong rules on obedience.

Once home, John’s kid brother is excited to have him back, but soon enough, obvious father-son struggles emerge. The father, a farmer bringing up two boys without their mother, expects what he considers as basics from his grown son. But John, who’s already defensive about returning to the place of his crime, has also probably gotten used to being mollycoddled by the adults where he served time (one of them, for example, had folded his shirts when he was leaving).

It does seem though that the trio might eventually work out a peaceful coexistence. But there are external obstacles. No one else outside John’s family gives him anything other than a silent, unwelcoming stare. And it soon becomes clear why, when John is assaulted inside a store by a woman who seems to have trauma associated with him. Returning to school also turns out to be a bad idea as his former friends seem to want to fuck him up at every opportunity. Except for one curious girl who moved into town only a year back and wasn’t privy to the local outrage at the time of John’s crime.

A slow-moving film with great performances that does a good job at examining the lives of juvenile offenders once they exit prison.

The principal was played by Inger Nilsson who played Pippi Longstocking in her youth.

I usually empathize and connect with these kinds of characters rejected by most, but in this case, it’s simply impossible. John rejects everyone who shows him affection (his father, his brother, etc). And the worst thing is that from the very beginning it’s clear he only reacts violently toward women (Bea, Malin, and of course, his dead ex-girlfriend), but when men confront him (the dude who wears a cap, and Kim later), he does absolutely nothing. John is a fucking coward!!
P.S.: that Philip boy taking care of his deranged grampa but calling him out when needs, and later on taking a stand against his dad at the football game is everything!! Philip is the only one in this movie that I respect.

**”The Here After”** is a slow-burning exercise in frustration. While I can appreciate what it was trying to do — exploring the struggles of a juvenile offender returning to his community after serving time — it felt like an endless slog of awkward silence and tension. The plot moves at a glacial pace, with the majority of the runtime spent watching John (Ulrik Munther) stare at the walls or exchange uncomfortable glances with his father and neighbors. It’s like the film is waiting for something to happen, but then… nothing really does.

Yes, the performances are solid, and you do feel the weight of John’s isolation and the community’s judgment, but the lack of any real plot progression made me wonder if the film was more about lingering awkwardness than actual storytelling. By the time I figured out what was happening (or rather, *wasn’t* happening), I was just relieved it was over. If you’re into films that leave you feeling as emotionally drained as a cold, gray Swedish winter, then this one might work for you. But for me? A definite miss.

movie without any deeper meaning, ending is pointless and makes no sense, movie makes no sense, every person in this movie makes no sense, although the plot was cool and overall the movie was comforting to watch, it has nothing to offer and dont expect anything because there are no surprises, dont recommend to waste time on it

It’s pretty lame. A couple of slaps and a kick or 2 in the face. Never really gets to why the girl is super pissed off about whatever he did. Rides off in to the sunset like nothing ever happened and I’m not really sure what did happen. After he wrecks the girls kitchen that attacked in him the store you’d figure that she would be even more pissed off but somehow she seems to be less angry. I gave it 2 stars. I guess I missed the point if there is one.
