LOL this current generation got so reactionary over everything we now call Fritz the Cat and Yellow Submarine “effed up and disturbing” movies. I have an idea for a majorly hyper-disturbing movie now, I’ll call it Dawn of the Hippies/Yippies and make a bunch of bank off the idiots who think this pretentious crap is effed up like your usual bourgeoise fat cat capitalists who don’t understnad carrot juice is better than Coca-Cola 😀
A fun fact about Robert Crumb, the creator of the ‘Fritz the Cat’ comics: Most people know that he hated this movie, but what I find interesting is that one of his complaints was of “repressed horniness”. That seems like a weird complaint to make, given the constant sex and nudity. So, why would he say this? Most likely because in the comic that the Nazi conspiracist scene is based on, Fritz joins in on raping a member’s girlfriend, whereas Bakshi’s Fritz half-heartedly tries to defend her.
If this movie came out in this generation, it probably would have adopted a family guy art style and I wouldn’t even bother to check it out

This movie made quite a splash when it first came out being an X-Rated cartoon. The rating was probably more for the offensive racial overtones than anything else. With all the hype and controversy I was surprised at how shit this was. This is the type of cartoon that I would skip over on Saturday morning when I was a kid while I was looking for Bugs Bunny or The Flintstones. Just a random dog shit type of plot with lousy animation. Robert Crumb, who’s comic strip of the same name this was based on, hated it because of the political message it sent but he must have been disappointed with the animation as well. 2 stars because I like Crumb.
There is a critically acclaimed documentary about Robert Crumb entitled “Crumb” (1994). It’s a fascinating look in to his career and his troubled family life and, yes, it’s pretty fucked up.

with the kid asking about “whats the plot?”, there isnt a plot, just a dude with messed up social ideology brought about by racial issues and guilt and oppression going through life and flowing with the wind in realistic situations.
I guess as long as it convey a message or entertain, it doesn’t have to be strict about needing a plot.

So I heard about this film on YouTube I I finally watch it and ever though I like it the they one thing I have to criticize is what the fuck was all this for like really I’m not saying they’re not stakes I mean one character died but overall just nothing just moving from ABCD point first he running from the cops for then a black people subplot and then the Nazi like wtf slow down but really nothing happens one guy getting shot and one girl getting raped like two happens that notable rest of the movie was just sex for the most part I didn’t get some of the political undertones but I’m too young to understand I’ll come back when I’m a adult 16 too young understand what bad about capitalism overall 6/10 the character don’t really change except the house who became a nun

I love it. It’s an animated comic. For all its lo-fi goodness, this artwork and animation exceeds what comics managed to do in the early 70s. A gem.

What a total treat seeing Fritz The Cat & the great Robert Crumb..last time I saw this film was circa 1984 aged 17 or 18 & on the ridiculously strong acid my friend who was a chemist for Sheffield University used to make us whole sheets of designer acid to orde..lol.I used to love nothing better than reading Mr Natural & the Fabulous Furry Frea I Brothers..I consider myself a feminist & still love them..lol.just a piece of 70′ s hippie madness in the same vain as Cheech N Chong
Truly a classic’s classic! All Fritz was was a completely intellectually honest character that wanted to get fubared and laid as often as possible. But it’s cool to see how the wisdom (more often stupidity) of others makes his character grow up, become earnestly involved with what used to be the mere the mere tools of getting girls sociopolitical rhetoric of the time. Then when tragedy strikes him hard, he does what the better side of the hippies did back then and comes full circle. Back to orgies, drugs, living like a scummy douchebag and eating chips and dip all day whilst becoming absorbed into the labotomy box. His enlightenment comes in realizing that his “over sexed” drug soaked, jew-cat ass was never really defective in the first place. A tough but worthwhile epiphany that many of us have had to have exactly as he had it. This movie and it’s take away truly epitomizes one of very few good things to come out of the hippie side of the 60’s counter-culture movement. Outstanding! Oh yeah, to all of the people in the comments section that keep blubbering back and forth Over “Trump” this and “Biden” that; identity politics is for the weak and simple minded. saw this as a kid on betamax – when my step mums saw this they were so horrified that they let me watch it all the way through and then bought me a copy for my birthday – i then watched the Crumb documentary and thought I bet that analchildmolester OJ not shitfuck watched it too
I enjoyed this, it was funny and the animation wasn’t bad at all for time.
Saw this as a young boy on VHS. My parents let me watch it thinking it was just an animated movie about a cat. Well, it was, but when they saw some of the scenes in it, they were horrified. It was quickly confiscated, I got a telling off and sent to my room. Great memories and to this day this film puts a smile on my face.
