Plot – Spoilers:
An ex-con and handyman Arkin is finishing up work on the Chase manor, owned by wealthy jeweler Michael Chase. Arkin’s under pressure from his wife to deliver an amount of money by midnight to help her tide against loan sharks. So he takes up a job to steal a valuable ruby from the Chase house while they’re away on vacation. But when he gets there he finds the place booby-trapped and the Chase couple being tortured in the basement by a masked man who collects victims.
A safe cracker with a heart of gold finds himself in a “Hostel” (2005)/”Don’t Breathe” (2016) type situation when a pest control guy rigs up the house he already cased in record time to thwart any unknown intruders who might visit. Crooks are usually pretty selfish but not Arkin, the safe cracker. When he had a chance to get away and save his wife and daughter from the wrath of the loan sharks he instead decides to throw his whole life away to try to save the little girl trapped in the house. There are lots of smoke and mirrors type gags and gimmicks and it is not made for an intellectual audience. I’m going to go straight up the middle with this one and give it just a cunt hair over 2 and a half stars and let me tell you why. It’s a somewhat entertaining watch with a decent production and really good special effects.

This movie has a lot of fans and I can understand why. Work with the camera and practical effects are decent and the main antagonist has a catchy design. Movie created a tense atmosphere and the main character seems like a nice guy as well. But the main and the biggest problem… oh god, every character is such a fucking moron. At some point it became truly unbearable. I’m used to stupid characters in horror movies and some amount of stupidness has become some sort of canon, but those characters are just retards.
It might seem unfair that I gave this movie the same rating as shittier movies, but it tries to be serious so I’m rating it as a serious movie. Even tho it’s not really good I’m sure some people might enjoy it if you don’t really pay attention to how stupid everyone is.

So am I right in thinking the sadist invaded the house, and tied up the occupants, and ripped apart and tortured several people (who just happened to be there, one of which he put in a trunk). Then he moved all the booby trap equipment into the house (from where?) and then spent several hours setting it all up, just in case someone else (such as a burglar perhaps) broke into the house! I’m finding it easier to believe there really is a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow.

Great slashing fun.. all action .. pretty good effects.. nothing new story but we’ll executed and loads of good gory bits and blood aplenty.
