Schramm (1993)

Option 1Can't Watch?

Wait 30secs. Movie still not playing? Click the "Can't Watch?" tab.

If the movie didn't load, it means you are being blocked by a security service we use. This can happen for a number of reasons.

Click this first

A new tab will open and a basic security check like a captcha will be performed. After completing the check, close that page and return here.

Refresh this page. Wait 30 secs. The movie should load and you can just hit play.

If it still doesn't play, Click here to watch the movie

The movie should now start playing in a new tab of your browser or begin downloading to your device. This option has the minor disadvantage that English-language movies with optional subtitles in the movie player will not include these subs with this method.

The new system here has been designed keeping in mind even people with low internet speeds sub-8mbps. Even if you have a really bad connection, you should still be able to watch the movie without any issues if you:
Start the movie. Pause it. Wait for 30-45 seconds. Start playing again.

This 'Can't Watch' method really only works if it's your specific device/browser that's interfering with the player. There is no real advantage of speed here. Or if there is a temp network glitch or read lag from the server disk.

If you're still having problems, try using 'Incognito mode' in your browser. On iPhones, especially older ones, use Chrome instead of Safari. Might help.

IMPORTANT: Please make sure that the newly opened tab is not an ad popup asking you to download some software or whatever. Close any such popups and don't download any software - those are ads. Nothing is needed to be done by you other than to complete the security check which is often automated.

AKA: Schramm: Into the Mind of a Serial Killer
Year: 1993
Directed by: Jorg Buttgereit
Starring: Florian Koerner von Gustorf (Schramm), Monika M (Neighbour)
Country: Germany, European Cinema
Language: German (English Subtitles)
Runtime: 01:05:31
Genres: Sexual-Violence against Women, Dolls, Gore-Gruesome, Prostitution, Violence against Men, Self-Harm, Serial Killers

Plot – Spoilers:
Schramm was Jorg Buttgereit’s last major feature in the effed up genre and features Monika M from Nekromantik 2.

Lothar Schramm, a taxi driver, lives alone and suffers from bizarre delusions and dreams that usually involve some form of self-harm. Sometimes he feels he’s lost the use of one of his legs, other times he believes his dick has vanished. His neighbor Marianne is a prostitute who services in-call clients with kinky tastes. Marianne is blissfully unaware of Schramm’s delusions and more importantly, that he’s a serial killer. To her, he’s a useful and harmless neighbor who often obliges her with odd errands.

Lothar hasn’t appeared to have used Marianne’s services and instead secretly lusts after her in his own kinky way. In person, he behaves like a helpful neighbour with a cynical view on relationships, and so the two neighbours share a comfortable relationship. For a while.

Though the movie begins with a quote from serial killer Carl Panzram, it’s not really based on any one single killer but rather on the profiles of several, including Panzram.

This is one of the weirdest films I have seen on EUM. Super bizarre. It circles back here and there, as with the Jehovah’s Witnesses and what not, which just makes it unusual and strange. I thought it was pretty creepy. 3 and a half stars.

There is a quote at the beginning “Today I am dirty but tomorrow I’ll be just dirt” that was said by Carl Panzram. This film has nothing to do with Panzram except for the quote. I am hoping that a real telling of Panzram’s life will be put on film someday. There is a movie about Carl Panzram entitled “Killer: A Journal of Murder” (1995) starring James Woods. It is a watered down version of his life and it almost paints Panzram in a sympathetic light. Although Panzram may have been unjustly fucked over since the day he was born, that doesn’t mean he wasn’t one of the most sadistic and cold hearted murderers in history. “Killer: A Journal of Murder” is so off the mark that it is almost pure fiction. There is a documentary called “Carl Panzram: The Spirit of Hatred and Vengeance” (2012) that can be seen on You Tube. I haven’t seen it in a long time so I can’t remember if it is good or not.

Really Good. Better than ”The Whale”.

This was (imo) disappointing, particularly when considering who the director was. It felt like watching a film cobbled together around bizarre scenes and as such (for me) didn’t keep me engaged. Maybe this was due to the continued jumping from delusions/dreams back to reality, but whatever it was the film didn’t work for me. It would have been more interesting (imo) if the film explored the last scene further – Luthar trying to rescue (?) his neighbour (from other serial killers?). All I took from this film is that Luthar was so poor he could only afford half a blow up doll. 2/5 paint rollers

Grubby low budget movie with some sub par acting, but it has some nice gory scenes and thats what we are here for.

The acting was inferior as the plot of the movie was generally stupid. Did have some decent gore effects though.

A great one, probably the best movie from this director. Joined “Henry…” and “Man bites dog” in the goat serial killer movies category (haven’t seen Angst yet, but will). It’s a shame that Buttgereit didn’t direct more movies, really dig his style.
