This makes it the third version of the story and is the official remake of Wes Craven’s original, apart from the unofficial remake Chaos in 2005.
The premise is the same – rape, murder and revenge. A family are in the woods on vacation and their teen daughter heads into town with her friend looking for pot. Instead they find themselves abducted by a sadistic gang who torment, rape and leave them for dead for no particular reason other than that they crossed paths.
Unlike the other two movies, this one focuses more on the aspect of revenge. The torment might be shorter here, but it’s strong enough for viewers to understand the parents’ bloodthirst. Remakes generally fall flat, but this one’s quite worthy.
I wasn’t a fan of the first “Last House on the Left” (1972) and I didn’t like “Chaos” (2005) very much either. I think this one is the better of the 3. The guy with the broken nose suffered pretty good but I wish the main bad guy suffered more. Even though I like revenge films I don’t like films where teenage girls get brutalized, raped and murdered by blood thirsty ex-convicts. 3 and a half stars.

Its been about 20 years since I watched the original so I will have to revisit it to compare with this version, but I have seen ”Chaos” and found that version to be more brutal and gory. I think this was still a good watch, especially the microwave scene at the end, which I thought was quite inventive (although how a microwave would work with the door open is a mystery). Overall it was ok but not great.
