At Bryton, a prep school, the students are either snobs, pricks or NPCs walking around looking numb. A lot of them are on school-administered medication. The teachers often are untrustworthy and self-serving, but always speaking a buddy language. tl;dr the kind of school you’d rather watch, than be in.
Robert, a freshman, hasn’t fit in yet, though he’s always trying in his own empty vacuous way. His buddy and rich-kid roommate is a dealer who seems to be friends with Robert only for help with his schoolwork. So Robert spends most of his time looking up vanilla shock clips and rough porn. Appropriately, he takes up a video project with a friendly girl in his class and begins practicing shooting buildings and hallways where he captures an unexpected event.

It just kind of drones along for about an hour and a half. Ezra Miller has good acting chops and the film seems like it is ready to take off at some points but it never really gets there. I thought it was pretty dull and not very interesting. A few odd sequences but really not enough to base a feature length film around. Ended pretty much how I thought it would. After all, where the fuck else was there to go? 1 and a half stars. Watch with a bottle of No Doze handy or put it on just before bed time to knock you out quick for a good night’s sleep.
I tried to watch this a few months ago but never made it very far. I tried again last night and I’m glad I made it to the end. It was an interesting movie. A bit slow at first but with an interesting yet confusing twist at the end.
Beginning was an snoozefest but it built up really well to an great plottwist
