Plot – Spoilers:
Femke, a popular Dutch columnist, is often trolled by those who consider her leftist scum – the Dutch title of this film, De Kuthoer, literally translates to ‘(the) cunt whore’ or ‘fucking whore’. Eventually, Femke, divorced with a teenaged daughter, succumbs to the threats of irl harm and temporarily quits Twitter. But it continues to bother her that someone hurt her feelings and she begins obsessing over the identities behind the usernames spewing venom. One of them she realizes is her neighbour who’s also begun to piss her of with the loud repair work in his yard.
Femke, despite her online image of tolerance and inclusiveness, harbours an intolerant angle to her personality that reveals itself during casual conversations with people she’s comfortable with. So one day when she notices her troll neighbour is fixing the roof, she pushes him to his death and chops off his middle finger as a keepsake. She then returns to her book that she’d been stuck on, with not a word popping out, and finds herself exhilarated and the words flowing.
The Columnist is absurd at times, but mostly entertaining and one of those movies that both sides might view favourably. Those in the middle or leaning to the left could view it as an example of the destructive effects of trolling that push a person to extreme acts. And for those on the right, it could simply feed their assertion that it’s the woke and leftists who carry out actual physical harm.
This certainly is an “Effed up movie”. Cuz it’s scaring and pizzing off every sexists here in the comments. Go back to your usual rapexploitation, wussies

This fills like the feminine version of the movie Rampage on many levels (almost same rating on EUM). I would also add this in the Mass Killing/rage category. Solid dark comedy fantasy of sorts 4/5.

Het dieptepunt van deze hele vertoning is de verwarring tussen ‘relevantie’ en ‘opportunisme’. Wat de maker waarschijnlijk aanziet voor maatschappelijke betrokkenheid, is in werkelijkheid de diepste vorm van artistieke schaamte: het verkopen van actuele, gevoelige debatten als goedkope ‘plot devices’ om een gebrek aan echte verhaallijn te maskeren. Het is stuitend om te zien hoe de cinematografie, die hoort te dienen aan de menselijke ziel en de complexiteit van de waarheid, wordt misbruikt als een politiek pamflet. De makers durven niet te zwijgen over wat ze niet begrijpen, en ze durven niet te creëren vanuit eigen observatie. Die angst – de angst om zonder de krukken van de actualiteit door de mand te vallen als een lege huls – is de ultieme schaamte die aan elk frame van deze film kleeft.
Ik heb besloten om het niet af te kijken vanwege een respect naar mezelf en elk andere individu met een greintje intelligentie en integriteit.
Ga maar boeken schrijven ofzo, of boeven vangen.

Het verbaast me niks dat deze film aanvoelt als een klusje van een maand: snel gefilmd, digitaal aan elkaar geplakt en met een sausje van gesubsidieerde haast eroverheen gegoten. Het is de ultieme bevestiging van een industrie die niet streeft naar artistieke perfectie, maar naar het afvinken van een productie-schema. Geen visie, geen doorleefd proces, geen ziel—gewoon content produceren voor de massa. Dat is geen filmkunst, dat is fabriekswerk.
Ivo ik ben nog niet klaar met jou!!! Ivo, ik heb 15 minuten naar dit misselijkmakende product gekeken en de lucht van “drie-in-een-dozijn” rotzooi is niet te harden. Laten we eerlijk zijn: dit is geen film, dit is een belediging voor iedereen die film als kunstvorm serieus neemt. Het is een volstrekt zielloos, voorspelbaar afbaksel van een Amerikaanse thriller, geproduceerd door iemand die waarschijnlijk nog nooit een echte, authentieke ervaring heeft gehad of die heeft durven vertalen naar het scherm. Het is een “copy-paste” van Hollywood-tropes, vertaald naar een Nederlands accent dat van geen kant overtuigt. De luie ‘writing’ spat ervan af. De “geplaagde schrijfster” met haar writersblock en het Zwarte Piet-drama? Het is zo doorzichtig, zo goedkoop en zo schaamteloos ingestoken om een politiek narratief door de strot van de kijker te duwen dat ik er bijna fysiek onwel van word. En dan die scènes… de nachtwinkel in een Nederlandse middelklassebuurt? De “spannende” geluidjes achter de laptop Ivo? Dit is de meest kinderachtige, doorzichtige “jump scare”-formule die je op de middelbare school voor filmstudies nog niet eens durft in te leveren. Het is geen spanning, het is pure minachting voor de intelligentie van de kijker. Als dit de staat van de Nederlandse cinema is—een land dat in deze leegte verdrinkt terwijl ze doen alsof ze “belangrijke verhalen” vertellen—dan eet ik nog liever een een kakelverse kattendrol. Ivo, dit is weer zo’n dertien-in-een-dozijn product dat bevestigt waarom de Nederlandse cinema in een identiteitscrisis zit.
Onder filmliefhebbers is het geen geheim dat het kwaliteitsniveau van de Nederlandse film al jaren keldert. We hebben de juweeltjes van vroeger ingeruild voor de luiheid van het klakkeloos kopiëren van standaard Amerikaanse malletjes. Deze film is de definitie van creatieve armoede; een slap aftreksel van een generieke thriller die de meest voorspelbare ‘ABC-ontwikkeling’ volgt die je je maar kunt voorstellen.
Wat de film echter onkijkbaar maakt, is de geforceerde, performatieve politiek. De schrijfster neerzetten als slachtoffer in het eeuwige, vermoeiende ‘Zwarte Piet’-debat is een goedkope truc—en eerlijk gezegd ook behoorlijk cliché. Vanaf de eerste kantoorscène vliegen de ‘tropes’ je om de oren. Het is propaganda verpakt als drama, en het is stuitend om te zien hoe een cultureel onderwerp zo door de mangel wordt gehaald om een politiek narratief te forceren.
Als dit de nieuwe standaard is voor Nederlandse kwaliteit, dan eet ik nog liever een schoen op dan dat ik me nog een keer verlaag tot dit soort tijdsroving. Kijk naar de eigenzinnigheid van de Duitse, Franse of Italiaanse cinema: zij durven tenminste nog een eigen taal te spreken. Stop met die geforceerde veramerikanisering van onze films. Het is misselijk, inspiratieloos en doodvermoeiend.

Enjoyable but I really disliked the lady killer. Does also take a good 30 minutes of social media messages popping up on screen before the real fun begins. If only it was that easy to find peoples addresses. I think I would also need a shed full of tools to depatch a few myself.

I REALLY like this film! It’s a dark serial killer/revenge story starring Katja Herbers as “Femke Boot” who gives an excellent creepy and menacing performance. It’s about the dangers that, pardon the expression, “little assholes” could face by going too far with bullshit online. Favorite part: “Raise a toast, Ladies and Gentlemen, to freedom of speech.” 5 stars.
Side note: Some “little assholes,” who’s miserable cunts ache over movie lists, would really benefit by watching this film. Not only would they learn something but it would also be the first film they ever watched in their lives. “Hey Schnooko – 2 birds, 1 stone.”
