Crickets (2006)

Option 1Can't Watch?

Wait 30secs. Movie still not playing? Click the "Can't Watch?" tab.

If the movie didn't load, it means you are being blocked by a security service we use. This can happen for a number of reasons.

Click this first

A new tab will open and a basic security check like a captcha will be performed. After completing the check, close that page and return here.

Refresh this page. Wait 10 secs. The movie should load and you can just hit play.

If it still doesn't play, Click here to watch the movie

The movie should now start playing in a new tab of your browser or begin downloading to your device.

If you're still having problems, try using 'Incognito mode' in your browser. On iPhones, especially older ones, use Chrome instead of Safari. Might help.

IMPORTANT: Please make sure that the newly opened tab is not an ad popup asking you to download some software or whatever. Close any such popups and don't download any software - those are ads. Nothing is needed to be done by you other than to complete the security check which is often automated.

This last option has the minor disadvantage that English-language movies with optional subtitles in the movie player will not include these subs.

AKA: Korogi

Country: Japan; Effed Up Asian Films
Language: Japanese (Eng Subs); Effed Up Japanese Movies
Runtime: 01:41:29
Genres: Weird, Older Man-Younger Woman

Plot – Spoilers:
A woman lives with and cares for a blind old man. She speaks occasionally to him even though he might be deaf. Generally a neat man, he doesn’t seem to give a shit about how messy he can be sometimes, particularly when he’s doing things he enjoys like eating. Neither does she, and she just buys him new shirts when he’s spilt food all over them. Sometimes she adds amusement to their seemingly boring life by hiding his shoes, but there’s nothing too malicious.

And that’s all there is to it. Recommended for those who aren’t really looking for a point to a movie but rather who enjoy beautifully shot scenes with the only point here perhaps being – here’s a woman who deliberately chooses to live with the kind of man who will always need her. Or maybe there was no man, just like there was no accident – this is a possibility drawn from her wearing the old man’s shirt towards the end, unless that was just about her missing him.

It’s kind of slow and weird as fuck, just the way I like them. Unusual musical score. I’m sure there is some deep philosophical or spiritual meaning behind it all but it eludes me and that’s OK. My favorite scene was the party after the blind guy died (I’m not sure if he really died but humor me) with the clown and the wonderful musical artist who sang and played the shamisen. 5 stars.

Eureka is also by this director. Pretty good, especially the first part but it runs a solid three and a half hours.

Speaking of Crickets….where are Matisse and An Oldboy. Are they ok? Are they still with us? Are they in Steve’s basement?
