Not particularly related to the Climati film, apart from the name and the fact that the Italian film was marketed as Cannibal Holocaust II, this modern American homage to the cannibal craze does away with the animals angle typical to the genre and focusses more on cannibalism.
At an American university, richkid Justine doesn’t really give a shit about the activism happening on campus. Not until the activist leader and his lackey guilt-trip her into awakening the “make a difference” vibe within her, and so she agrees to join them on a trip to the Amazon jungles to stop some corporation looking to wipe out tribes to get at the oil reserves there. Predictably, the college kids are soon captured by a cannibal tribe and eaten one by one.

Just another BS cannibal movie. Never seeing anyone (other than the 1st guy, fully clothed) being properly butchered, nor getting cooked. And as far as what they were eating, looked more like beef parts. And if I were a cannibal, the first person I would have liked to see roasting whole (naked), over a fire, then eaten, was the only one who got away.
Left wing activists get talked in to doing the dumbest things by total strangers. The premise is almost a little silly but somewhat believable. It’s a good film and worth watching. If you decided to skip it I wouldn’t lose any sleep over it. I’ll give it 3 and a half stars because I like how she got even with the bad guy.

Well, it was a film made to scare the left-wing young people in the West. It was the original ‘King Kong’ updated for a new generation. Stephanie is beautiful in the film and the backers of this film are projecting her as a stand-in for people like ‘Greta Thunberg’ or ‘Malala’. It has all the classic racist tropes designed to portray everything non-white as evil and to be afraid of them. This in turn will keep the status quo of the rich west to keep exploiting the rainforests for profit. The evil the white man has done to the world puts the cannibalism shown here to be miniscule in scale. It’s another re-hash of the hegemonty of racism and white supremacy to keep doing what they have done forever and still be seen as the ‘good guys’. In reality they are the ‘bad guys’ and that my friends is how propaganda works. Look to the real facts to see who has done the horrors in this world for land and profit and not to mention the poisoning of our air for profit. So… it’s a gore film, fine but the messages it sends are clear. The leader of the new ‘hippies’ was shown as a’Che Guavara’ or “Manson’ (Manson wasn’t as hippy though he poisoned the hippies to commit his evil crimes)., which all in all tells you the mind and agenda of the makers of this film.

Already saw this a few years ago, and from what I remember the gore is pretty good. I had an impossible time empathizing with any of the ‘victims’, and was pretty much cheering for the locals. A couple of the scenes are over the top, and this makes for some laugh out loud moments.
even though this seems to be much more advanced on basically every front, i can’t help liking the old cannibal flicks better still… guess this one’s a little too modernized for my taste. never though i’d miss the animal scare cheap-outs this much
Correction: Not ALL the college kids get eaten – though it doesn’t really matter either way.
I don’t hate Eli Roth but everything he does is a mixed bag and follows the exact same formula. They all have the same xenophobic themes and hateable characters. I don’t know if that’s intentional but every character I can think of in his movies is some comic book evil-doer or a hammy archetype that just seems to be there to remind you you’re watching a really basic piece of shit.
Otherwise they’re enjoyable for what they are.

Its an enjoyable movie & a good homage to cannibal holocaust…but that pot scene getting the natives stoned seemed dumb & over the top, plus wouldnt that just give them the munchies & more likely to wanna eat them?
Wasn’t expecting this to pop up when I entered the site today but damn glad it’s here. I always loved the torture in this movie.
