Wait 30secs. Movie still not playing? Click the "Can't Watch?" tab.
Click this first
A new tab will open and a basic security check like a captcha will be performed. After completing the check, close that page and return here.
Refresh this page. Wait 30 secs. The movie should load and you can just hit play.
If it still doesn't play, Click here to watch the movie
The movie should now start playing in a new tab of your browser or begin downloading to your device. This option has the minor disadvantage that English-language movies with optional subtitles in the movie player will not include these subs with this method.
The new system here has been designed keeping in mind even people with low internet speeds sub-8mbps. Even if you have a really bad connection, you should still be able to watch the movie without any issues if you:
Start the movie. Pause it. Wait for 30-45 seconds. Start playing again.
This 'Can't Watch' method really only works if it's your specific device/browser that's interfering with the player. There is no real advantage of speed here. Or if there is a temp network glitch or read lag from the server disk.
If you're still having problems, try using 'Incognito mode' in your browser. On iPhones, especially older ones, use Chrome instead of Safari. Might help.
IMPORTANT: Please make sure that the newly opened tab is not an ad popup asking you to download some software or whatever. Close any such popups and don't download any software - those are ads. Nothing is needed to be done by you other than to complete the security check which is often automated.

Jack’s an engineer but fancies himself as an architect and above all, an artist. He’s inherited a good deal of money and so has devoted his time to building the ideal house. But the passion that really envelops Jack is killing. He’s bought a freezer and built up quite the collection of bodies that he uses to entertain himself in myriad ways.
Though Jack’s exploits run over 12 years, we follow five specific incidents as narrated by him to a strange man called Verge. Jack’s philosophy on getting away with his often brazen behaviour is simple – don’t bother hiding, because no really cares anyway.

I really like this movie. I remember I watched it one day when I had a day off and it was pretty cool. Usually I’m not one for long movies but liked the visual of this one. I kinda forgot how it went since I watched two years ago, but I think I should watch it again.
i suppose the spin of the religion at last was unnecessary. I mean all the work for the sake of some gibberish at last.
Is this the director’s cut? Seems shorter than it should be. Anyone know? What are the differences?
A friend of mine and I were waiting for this film to be in movie theaters but it never came close to where we were, so we had to wait until it was available on the internet. I think I bought it on Amazon and we watched it at my house. It’s good but it’s not as good as we were hoping it was going to be, considering the hype. Even so, I wouldn’t skip it. 3 and a half stars.
this movie is on Hulu but they cut 40 minutes out
Underrated Movie
pretty gorgeous imagery
Most bloated, self-indulgent, conceited and pretentious piece of shit I’ve ever seen. I’m so sick of films like this supposedly providing social commentary on violence & art without ever really saying anything of substance…Lars von Trier is so far up his own ass it’s laughable. Only part that didn’t feel like a complete chore to get through was the hunting scene which would have been good as a short film but as usual Trier has to bog down every decent idea he has with insufferable contirived dialogue. I hated this film and I hate all the brown nosing morons in the comments calling this film a masterpiece
This…this was absolutely breathtaking. The symbolism? The imaginery? Everything? Simply amazing.
wow – this movie totally lives up to the hype it has. it’s been on my list for a hot minute, and i was skeptical going in, but the high praises i’ve heard for it are well deserved. amazing effects, kept me on the edge of my seat, and managed to hold my adhd brain’s attention for a full 2 hours, hahah. incredible work. 10/10 for me.
What a masterpiece. This is one of, if not the best movie I’ve ever watched. I felt so god damn related to the entire thing, as if Lars Von Trier thinks like me.
Jack is Elon Musk
In my opinion, this is the best film directed by Lars von Trier. This film represents the nature of evil with many riflessive sequences and the dialogues between Jack (Mr. Sophistication) and Verge, his “Dark Passenger”. We can see perfectly the structure of a serial killer’s mind, Jack, who kills for seeking the perfection. Furthermore, this movie took about one year only for creating the special effects, especially during the journey to the hell. A pure masterpiece!
Lars Von Trier did it again. Awesome fucking movie
Geez I love von Trier’s work! Especially enjoyed the presentation of Jack through pseudointellectual conversations with Virgil, who wrote the Aeneid. I had to read the Aeneid in the original Latin in high school, so I’m guessing that’s why Virgil also has a special role in hell ha-HA!
Next stop Midsommer.
lars is such a cunt
A monster with the gift of the gab condemned to the depths of hell.
We Are All The Pages-SK53
Amaizing movie, a 10/10 for sure! It’s a wild ride but I truly can’t wait to rewatch 😀
that was fucking great. jesus. yanno, i though the whole house thing would be some nerd engineer shit that wouldn’t impress me but wow. wowie zowie. that was fucking brutal HAHA
Finally a Trier movie that doesn’t take itself serious.
Strong 7/10
Bizarre almost surreal look at the exploits of a serial killer. ONE hour of interesting dialogue and action spread over two and a half hours! Not a good combination!
Definitely in my top 10, can’t say much that hasn’t been said before.
Matt Dillon is always great, hell he played my namesake Charles Bukowski in Factotum.
I love the intertwining of the killer with Dante’s Inferno. That’ll probably be lost on some of the spergs here;)
been putting of finishing it cuz some exchanges were way too cringy, but it was worth it. especially for Jack’s finished house lol
somebody needs to write a Jack x Patrick fanfic right fuckin now
50% of effedupmovies users are ending up where Jack does at the end just saying
Ey yo, random way too personal question incoming because i really don’t know where to post this. A friend of mine (basically since childhood, 20+ years ) told me recently he’s fucking a married woman and it’s because he “likes that it’s bad and definately knows this is a wrong thing to do, which is why he likes it” He’s a german police officer and it would take one call from me to fuck up his life and the life of his family. He would be instantly sent to jail. Not because he’s a bad person or something, just because of his occupation and (light) drug abuse I have on my phone regtarding his chat. I’m so done with this fucktard. Am I taking this too personal? My mom passed away 21 and I can’t stop thinking how she would take this and tbh after those feelings, I want his life to burn to the ground. I’m right now getting worse and worse stopping myself telling his mother. That’s what REALLY would fuck him up. Am I way too far in my head to look at this logically? I’m burning with rage right now.
lars von trier sucks
I’m a boss, I can buy the same thing my man bought.
This movie is just plain fun to watch!
What an insane movie! I cringed at some scenes such as the shooting of kids but must give kudos to Matt Dillon, who was perfect for the role probably because he has that killer look about him. This would have to be one of Von Triers best films in the same league as Antichrist. I dont know how he comes up with some of this stuff but I hope he keeps doing it. This is a must watch for anyone on this site.
“Warning (as requested): Includes violence against children” well, the sites called effedupmovies, what are you gonna expect?
waited so many years to watch this – wish i hadn’t waited. incredible take on the serial killer narrative. thanks for putting it up 🙂
Its Lars von Trier so you know the cinematography will be good and it is. Having a serial killer with OCD is novel but for me it is the dialogue with Verge that is the highlight of the film. Verge being Virgil which Jack realizes when he comments on him writing the Aeneid, with the film clearly taking from (the book) Dante’s Inferno where Virgil is the guide through hell (and indeed Verge states there are circles in hell). A serial killer film with philosophy and symbolism thrown in and one I enjoyed 4/5 scythes
This movie comes in hard. It pulls no punches and isn’t afraid to hit below the belt. The main characters are gritty and dirty and they fight that way. The directing is animalistic and determined, the story line is in top form and ready to take on all cummers. In short, it’s a dirty, animalistic, gritty, bulbous flick. Don’t watch it is your idea of good is different than mine. My idea of good is when the movie is fucking good, not some shitty idea of good that is fucking stupid or lame, like milk toast with cream of wheat type shit. Everyone matters and belongs where they are for reasons and is a special little flower on this planet, but maybe not you. Probably actually not you. Definately in fact, don’t take it hard, just accept it and settle for that fact. Now I am going to watch this movie, I hope it lives up to the hype presented in this reviewers dissertation. It better be good or I will be fucking pissed.
omg…3rd grade death is art philosophizing. John Waters did it 50 years ago and with more depth..
Quite and odd movie.
That one scene where he screams help at the woman’s house reminds me too much of Pagan Min to take seriously ngl
That was pretty funny. I just kept thinking this is Tex, all grown up.
Im so glad you have this movie. And the rest of von triers it seems, time for me to catch up i guess.
Honestly, I do not feel that this was one of Lars Van Trier’s best efforts. It’s worth a watch but not his best IMHO.
Well, that was fucking incredible.
I thought Von Trier was just another horny man. This film cememnts that view.
My best friend saw this at the movies and couldn’t get over how great it was, so we watched it together and I was like meh… 5/10
Truly amazing film. One of my favourites.
BRAVO! SUPERB! & WTF?!?!
wow never thought id ever watch such a philisophical serial killer movie. but hey thats Von Trier for you, packed with themes and symoblism. great performance from matt dillion and some scenes are pretty f***d up! :0
Odd movie. Not exactly what I’d call gore though. ?
Awesome I love Lars Von Trier
YESS!!! Thank you brother!!
