Plot – Spoilers:
A hypnotist Jijii controls a young psychopathic killer Ichi to take advantage of two gangs at war with each other. Ichi is so brutal in his hits, there are cleanup men who mop up after him.
When Yakuza boss Anjo goes missing, his next-in-command Kakihara makes it his mission to unravel the situation. Kakihara is a pure masochist and when he hears Ichi has his sights on him, it titillates him.
There are plenty of bizarre and hilarious characters in this Takashi Miike classic that was considered so violent, it was banned in many countries.
Probably Miike’s most adventurous rollercoaster ride (aside from maybe Gozu) based on the manga of the same name. If you like this movie I suggest to check out the manga which goes deeper into the themes of this story. Especially the character of Kakihara differs heavily from the manga, which is a shame imo but you will probably be glad to hear that what has been scrapped is made up for in glorious ultra-violence.
Strong 8
the fact theres a child actor in this is strange haha. did the parents know what they signed up for??
I love Kakihara
I have an itchy killer of a boner ready for little boys assholes
I barely understood shit but nice
the only thing Ichi managed to kill was kill my fucking time.
some of the best costume design i have ever seen in a movie! love it
im a fan of gore but rape scenes are never necessary, the sa scenes are way too much and theres literally no point to them???
Great film! Shame this version has such bad audio sync.
Incredible display of violence and gore, whether there was also a story to follow I cannot say, but it would be good to find a director who doesn’t think that every action scene must include heavy loud music.
Just classic… An immaculate piece of true cinema .. aesthetically it’s an artistic wonder of pure sadistic and Gore encapsulating japnese culture of the tip on the ice Berg.
P good adaptation, did not expect this good actors lol
Unfortunately all the cgi are a product of their time and it shows
genialll
My New Year’s Eve movie. Enjoyed it very much, now a fan of Miike’s works
Asano Tadanobu is the best Japanese actor. Period. I loved this movie when I was 11, I loved it today. I no longer can stand gore as much as I used to, but I can definitely enjoy the familiar feeling that the movie gave me.
Takashi Miike never disappoints. I was hoping he would direct the Homunculi movie (written by the same mangaka that wrote Ichi The Killer), but that didn’t happen. Homunculi is definitely not as ridiculous as this one, that takes away from it.
This is a good movie if you like visuals and artsy camera angles and a lot of violence.
HEY IAM JUSTED WATCH THIS MOVIE AND THERE WAS TOO MANY PEOPLE INN IT WAS CONFUSSING BUT VERY GUD
Came here after the manga, doesn’t make it any justice honestly. Read the manga which is a million times better.
I’d say this movie is fundamentally different from the manga. I don’t say it as a detrement to any of the two version but they’re indee different. The movie ending totally changes the core of the story, giving it a different core theme from the manga. But hta’s subjective, I love both the movie and the manga.
Finally a worthy live action adaptation
this and visitor q
Great. The cheap gore somehow makes it better.
ichi and kakihara are perfect gay rep. sometimes a man brutally murders every woman that comes into his life because his true soulmate is a man!
I watch this film at least once a week..
I wish this dropped second Sadly but great movie overall.
The manga is better
hell of a movie
Takashi Miike at his best!
Aged like Fine Wine.

Video is out of sync
One of the all time greatest movies made. A tale of true psychological horror. It depicts violence in all it’s forms and sex. It shows the bonds we all share with both masochism and sadism. We can see ourselves in Ichi and Kakihara. The dance they unveil is not one of death, but of life itself, one of struggle and pain. I hope Hollywood never decides to do a remake of this film. If you can read the maga, it is so worth it!
idk if i watched the uncut ver or the “safe” ver b4 on another site and not wanting to watch it again rn (not that i didnt enjoy its its one of my favorites of all time im just tired now) can someone whos seen both versions what the major differences r. like what scenes were cut from this one.
who was that kid at the ending
Paulyn Sun’s performance is influentially and sublimely analogous to an Asiatic Helen Bonham Carter.
Dai-ichi (第一) is a compound modifier phrase of Japanese origin, meaning number one. Takashi Miike cast a brilliant artist who portrayed a psychologically elaborate disposition of coveted evince.
Other films are bête noire in juxtaposition <3
Madem dünyaya dargıngın ichi gurban niye dogdun
Geçtiğin yollara bi dön bak istedim Kakihara, götün düşmüş.
WOW AWESOME MOVIE. TOTAL THRILL RIDE,,, THANKS TO YOU EFFEDUP , AGAIN
This better be the uncut version.
I understood everything except how was Kakihara sitting in the bath tub in the end?
I own several versions of this but this one has the best giblets!
This is one of the best and most artistic movie ever to be made. Better than Shawshank Redemption
good
there’s a sync problem in both options 🙁
Am I the only one hoping for a BL ending of Kakihara with ? In their extreme sadomaso way. ????
I’ll have to watch this again. (Hey– it wasn’t here before I asked for it! Not that I think I’m the only one.) It goes beyond the extreme violent, and even beyond a parody on the extreme violent. I think what is interesting here is the manner by which the sick behaviour of (some of) the characters seems just so natural for them, that the viewer is bound to believe this is an actual psycho disturbed world portrayed here. It isn’t funny, it’s crazy and sick in a convincing way, and that is no easy matter.
Enjoyed every minute.
Loved the scene where he bites his hand lol.
nice movie, i like the balance of torture and crime 🙂
Kakihara is one of my favorite Japanese character ever! Ah!
The videos are out of synch by a few seconds.
haha fuck yes ive been waiting so long for this
