A documentary on Björn Andresen, who played Tadzio in Death in Venice. Andresen now lives a mostly mundane life struggling with basic things like trying to retain tenancy of his apartment. The filmmakers unravel a shy boy who was first trapped by the whims of his grandmother and now as an old man, by his younger girlfriend. It dramatizes and dare-you-say, even makes a a big deal out of what a lot of people deal with growing up. Except perhaps that this is about someone who briefly was an idol and at an impressionable age, was cast in an iconic, yet controversial taboo role that sold him as a piece of designer meat for the whole world to salivate over.
Who the fuck is Björn Andresen? I know. I said the same thing. Well, he was in a highly overrated movie called “Death In Venice” (1971). I watched “Death In Venice” before “The Most Beautiful Boy In The World” thinking it would be more helpful to understand the documentary but I don’t think it is necessary to watch “Death In Venice” first. In fact I don’t think it is necessary to watch “Death In Venice” at all. Just read my review. In “The Most Beautiful Boy In The World” you get to know a little about Björn Andresen. Everybody has it tough in life one way or the other but Björn Andresen seems to have had more than his fair share of family catastrophes. Even today he doesn’t know who his father was and his mother committed sausage when he was young. Plus his son died from SIDS when he was 9 months old. YIKES!!! Basically Björn seems to whine a lot about how his starring role in “Death In Venice” fucked up his whole life, while he jets off to exotic places all over the world like Japan. I’m going to give this documentary just a cunt hair over 3 stars and let me tell you why. Björn is in a crucial scene in a great fucked up movie called “Midsommar” (2019) that should be included on EUM. Tragic — Andresen was exploited by his grandmother, his mother who forbade him from knowing his father, Visconti, and even the crazed Japanese. It seems NO ONE advocated for the boy, saying, He needs guidance and companionship, not worship and adoration merely for his looks. Incredibly shallow society in both the West and the East (Japan, in this case).

Documentary was quite interesting, but unfortunately, I found Death in Venice unwatchable. Both were quite slow. Seems like he was portrayed as the Judy Garland of Europe.
