In a small French town, a fireman, Florimond (Pin-Pon), who also runs a local garage is enamoured by the new girl in town – Eliane – who’s just moved in with her nervous-looking mother and wheelchair-bound father.
Pin-Pon is awkward in Eliane’s presence and feels hurt when the more social guys in his circle brag about fucking her in different positions and places. Finally through the intervention of his brother, the two link up at the local dance. But Eliane, who has a I’ll-never-grow-old vibe about her, is mostly bored of Pin-Pon, leaving him clueless and with no further moves left. But just when he’s resigned to moving on, Eliane shows up at his garage with a punctured bicycle and two begin seeing each other. Eliane is a bit of an exhibitionist and being around her makes Pin-Pon feel older than he is, but he enjoys playing the mature, comforting daddy role. But he’s gonna have to do a lot of that because there’s something murky lurking beneath his girlfriend whose idea of comfort sometimes includes suckling on her mothers breast and keeping an odd distance from her crippled father.
The name Pin-Pon suits the Florimond character well, while Adjani stuns once again and not just because, at 28 she convincingly plays a twenty-year-old and is even almost-convincing as a teenager in flashback scenes. This is a romcom with effed up elements. Some of you might enjoy it, others will complain about the decline of EUM 👉👈

what a formidable performance from Isabelle Adjani, damn
French cinema yet once again proved its brilliance through this tiny masterpiece. The film was to be described in one word, it would be ‘Unpredictable’, you never know what will be the next thing or what will be the next intention of a character will be. ‘One deadly summer’ is a film about characters you may or may not be familiar with in real life but you certainly will believe them. Isabelle Adjani is very precise and shines with excellence in her role, she gives one of her very best performances here. Alain Sounchon delivers a remarkable performance, and the chemistry between these two are beyond words.
The film oozes with mystery every moment, though having situations very believable and genuine and the characters development is so strong, so deep, that you will be forced to see every situation from their individual perspectives. A film to look out for.
Simply one of those few fine European films you cannot afford to avoid, undoubtedly a 9.8 out of 10!
