Lady Vengeance (2005)

Option 1Can't Watch?

Wait 30secs. Movie still not playing? Click the "Can't Watch?" tab.

If the movie didn't load, it means you are being blocked by a security service we use. This can happen for a number of reasons.

Click this first

A new tab will open and a basic security check like a captcha will be performed. After completing the check, close that page and return here.

Refresh this page. Wait 30 secs. The movie should load and you can just hit play.

If it still doesn't play, Click here to watch the movie

The movie should now start playing in a new tab of your browser or begin downloading to your device. This option has the minor disadvantage that English-language movies with optional subtitles in the movie player will not include these subs with this method.

The new system here has been designed keeping in mind even people with low internet speeds sub-8mbps. Even if you have a really bad connection, you should still be able to watch the movie without any issues if you:
Start the movie. Pause it. Wait for 30-45 seconds. Start playing again.

This 'Can't Watch' method really only works if it's your specific device/browser that's interfering with the player. There is no real advantage of speed here. Or if there is a temp network glitch or read lag from the server disk.

If you're still having problems, try using 'Incognito mode' in your browser. On iPhones, especially older ones, use Chrome instead of Safari. Might help.

IMPORTANT: Please make sure that the newly opened tab is not an ad popup asking you to download some software or whatever. Close any such popups and don't download any software - those are ads. Nothing is needed to be done by you other than to complete the security check which is often automated.

AKA: Chinjeolhan Geumjassi; Sympathy for Lady Vengeance
Directed by: Park Chan-wook
Starring: Lee Young-ae (Geum-ja), Choi Min-sik (Baek), Kim Byeong-ok (Preacher), Kim Si-hoo (Geun-shik)
Country: South Korea, Asian Cinema
Language: Korean (English Subs)
Runtime: 01:55:07
Genres: Captivity, Revenge, Torture, Violence against Men

Plot – Spoilers:
Geum-ja has just been released from prison after 13 years for having kidnapped and killed a young boy. While in prison, Geum-ja was popular among the inmates and guards for her kindness and explicit remorse as a born-again Christian. Now that she’s out, she joins a bakery but appears – to those who’ve known her – to have turned cold and even a little intimidating. She also seems to have brutal plans in place for an unknown man.

Appropriately also known as Sympathy for Lady Vengeance, this one oozes style and great music while wallowing in the idea that for some, there is no such thing as remorse. Only eternal damnation.

I never expected such a well made movie to be in the same place as bullshit like “Tumbling Doll of Flesh”, “Tantrum”, etc. But i can’t really complain, after all the site’s name is basically “fucked up movies”, what can i expect? Good movie anyways.

As with the other films in Park Chan-wook’s “revenge” trilogy this one has a super convoluted plot making it super implausible. Of course he has his signature comedic yukity-yuk goofy sections to let you know that it’s just a bullshit film. By the time you find out that the bad guy tortured and brutally murdered 4 really young children you are thinking that someone may be pulling your leg and a clown with a red nose and a tooty horn is going to pop out and scream in a really dumb voice “April Fools!” Some of the dialog is just dreadful (watch at around 01:07:30 for a few minutes). As far as revenge films I would want to watch again “Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance” (2002), “Oldboy” (2003) and “Lady Vengeance” (2005) come in dead last. Want to see some really great revenge films? Watch “First Blood” (1982), “7 Days” (2010), “Death Wish 2” (1982) or “High Plains Drifter” (1973). I’ll go straight up the middle with “Lady Vengeance” and give it just a cunt hair over 2 and a half stars.

I’ve noticed in several Asian films than in scenes where Asians are eating, they almost always put chopsticks in their mouths and then use the same chopsticks to put food on someone else’s plate or they double dip the chopsticks in to the community food. Start watching at around 51:30. I’ve seen stuff like this in almost every Asian film on EUM.

Park Chan-wook is my favorite Asian director, with Takashi Miike running a close 2nd. The Vengeance Trilogy is an incredibly irresistible body of art. Thank you for all of them, EUM!

Cinema outside of Hollywood always feels refreshing to me. I find more unique ideas out of those realms whether it be from France, Canada, Japan, South Korea.

Your movies surely seem to buffer a lot and when I say a lot I mean every few minutes or so.
Either way, though I’m very appreciative of this site and enjoyed this movie among others! Keep up the good work! 😀

I found Asian cinema ( in particular Japanese ) is much better quality than American.

The actress, Lee yeong ae admit she only accepted the role because she wants a “different identity” after being typecast because of her tv hit series Dae Jang geum. Where she plays as very demure and wholesome character oppose to her role in Lady vengeance, sadly for her it doesn’t help her career and public image as Yeong ae still known as Jang geum until to this day.
