Visions of Suffering (2006)

Option 1Can't Watch?

Wait 30secs. Movie still not playing? Click the "Can't Watch?" tab.

If the movie didn't load, it means you are being blocked by a security service we use. This can happen for a number of reasons.

Click this first

A new tab will open and a basic security check like a captcha will be performed. After completing the check, close that page and return here.

Refresh this page. Wait 30 secs. The movie should load and you can just hit play.

If it still doesn't play, Click here to watch the movie

The movie should now start playing in a new tab of your browser or begin downloading to your device. This option has the minor disadvantage that English-language movies with optional subtitles in the movie player will not include these subs with this method.

The new system here has been designed keeping in mind even people with low internet speeds sub-8mbps. Even if you have a really bad connection, you should still be able to watch the movie without any issues if you:
Start the movie. Pause it. Wait for 30-45 seconds. Start playing again.

This 'Can't Watch' method really only works if it's your specific device/browser that's interfering with the player. There is no real advantage of speed here. Or if there is a temp network glitch or read lag from the server disk.

If you're still having problems, try using 'Incognito mode' in your browser. On iPhones, especially older ones, use Chrome instead of Safari. Might help.

IMPORTANT: Please make sure that the newly opened tab is not an ad popup asking you to download some software or whatever. Close any such popups and don't download any software - those are ads. Nothing is needed to be done by you other than to complete the security check which is often automated.

AKA:
Directed by: Andrey Iskanov
Starring: Alexander Shevchenko (Man in glasses), Andrey Iskanov (Priest), Alexandra Batrumova (Girlfriend), Svyatoslav Iliyasov (Beret man)
Country: Russia
Language: Russian (English subtitles)
Runtime: 02:06:01
Genres: Bizarre-Surreal, Gore-Gruesome-Splatter, Small Creatures, Violence against Women, Vampires, Drugs, Necrophilia

Plot – Spoilers:
Couple of guys are having some trouble with recurring nightmares that share a similar setting. One of them is on the verge of paranoia holed up in his apartment, while his girlfriend zones out in a fetish club. The other guy seems to be a priest having ideological differences with his faith. The priest also has fantasies/memories of the same club and other guy’s girlfriend.

Constructing a plot beyond this (if this was even correct) is left to the viewer’s imagination. Visions of Suffering like a lot of films in the genre is best experienced, rather than understood. From an effedup viewpoint, in addition to violence on the dance floor, there’s also a necro scene – though not sure if a vampire fucking a dead woman counts as necro.

Well made and interesting bizarre/surreal film which wouldn’t be one of my “go to” movies in the genre, like say “Crickets” (2006), “Profane” (2011) or “Possession” (1981) would be, because of the excessive use of the strobe lights starting about half way through the film. While watching bizarre/surreal films I am trying to grasp on to concepts and find meaning in scenes that might lead to some possible cohesion when the film wraps up, which can cause fatigue. Adding 45 minutes of constant flashing strobe lights along with super fast editing just adds to the fatigue. There’s no doubt this film is about as bizarre/surreal as they come but the strobes will keep me away from another viewing. 3 stars.

Yay, many thanks for adding one of my requests admins:D A great fit for this site, imo, kinda surprised it wasn’t here already tbh. Iskanov’s other film, Nails, would be great too for down the road… Btw admins, thanks especially for having the foresight to have the Effedup watermark white this time instead of the usual yellow, which would’ve been an eyesore in a film like this w such drab colors;) I’ll start right out by saying if u like experimental films, then view this bc chances r you’ll enjoy it! For others tho, it might b hit or miss. Regarding the plot, from what I gather, our protagonist has nightmares when it rains, and upon further discussion with his friendly neighborhood phone repairman, learns vampires can use these visions of suffering (ha) as a kind of doorway to u, but only if u know about them. So by that token, the repairman just kinda fucked him over by telling him that, hence, now he is beginning to see the vampires. The overall message is less clear cut tho, at least to me. Perhaps to not go all Freud status trying to overthink and psychoanalyze ur own dreams, lest it lead to worse? Some good cgi effects generally, some looked very poor tho esp the screen overlays, sacred geometry trip-scenes, and title/credits (specifically reminded me of talentless screamerclauz cgi lol). It wasn’t horrible tho, esp considering this was an independent film, from ’06 at that. Same w the gore sfx,… Read more »
