Plot – Spoilers:
A German tourist, Maria, who has grown to only need the company of herself, walks among ruins, silently watching the other blank-faced, serene tourists. Her wanderings take her through churches and finally catacombs, where she’s struck by the photo of an unknown dead man. It’s a love so strong, she hires a dodgy character to steal her lover’s remains, claiming a familial connection.
The dead man has no name. It’s just a face. But that’s all Maria needs along with her imagination. She takes her time getting to know him, mostly because she’s body-conscious and shy, especially when the hollow eyes in his skull stare at her with unwavering attention. So she writes odes and little love notes and gets a feel of his bones gently at her own pace. She doesn’t consider herself a necrophiliac, rather simply a girl who fell in love with someone who happened to be dead. In a way, it’s about control. He offers nothing back in opposition to her imagination and thoughts and so he can be anything she wants him to be. And she can do with him anything she wouldn’t feel bold enough to do with a living man.
Yearning of Maria D is possibly Marian Dora’s most lonely and artistic work and while not being as extreme as his other films, is certainly worth a watch for most who visit this place.
Definitely could not look away from this one, it made me feel.. something but I had trouble figuring out what exactly that was.

Before this movie, I never knew I could have a fetish about certain bodily fluids, unless it’s done by an actress as dedicated and serious as Shivabel Coeurnoir. I was stunned and sad to discover during the watching of this movie that she is dead today. And it’s a shame because the world needs actresses who can do what she did in this movie not for the money, but because she sees herself in what she does. There’s not enough about her on the internet, but she obviously had something more or different in her artistic endeavour. She looks like the kind of actress who deserves respect because she carried every fetish and crude moment in this movie. Who can make what she did the same way without looking sordid and brainless, or taunting because she’s obviously here for the money and can’t act? I can’t believe she died of a heart attack or whatever. From what I see, I’m pretty sure a certain PM of a certain middle-eastern country was not too fond of having some countrymate like her around. Her art and style screamed freedom and seeing behind walls. Like usual I was here for the nudity, and God knows if I saw some, but there’s more than that in the movie like I said. Less extreme than most Marian Dora films but still some graphic nudity and fetish stuff. Beautifully shot and sounds great. Perhaps some people will be able to make sense of it but not me. If you want to see someone pissing and masturbating I believe they should be at least as hot as shivabel coeurnoir.
I had a really hard time trying to stay awake during this one. Between the droning piano music, the church organ and the music box, all playing throughout the film in mid tempo, the video edits every 3 to 5 seconds, and her voice rambling at one volume level, I practically had to hold my eyes open. I’ve seen a few Dora films and I can’t say I’m a big fan, although I can see why someone would admire his film making. This just isn’t my cup of tea so I’m not going to rate it.

I wish Marian Dora made more movies. We’re here for film makers who push boundaries and challenge our senses, but few films actually do that.

Dora the Explorer of bodily fluids has gone a bit soft with this one. Not as extreme as his other stuff but still has his style nonetheless. You could almost class this as a romantic flick. Blight of Humanity beats this hands down but I still enjoyed it for what it was.
