Plot – Spoilers:
Following an audition, a group of dancers hold their final rehearsal in a decrepit building on the outskirts of Paris. In the celebratory party afterwards, they huddle in cliques bitching and lusting over each other. Soon they begin to experience panic and hallucinations and it is claimed that one of them had spiked the drinks with LSD. The intra-group animosities and prejudices surface as they turn on one another and themselves. Everyone gets fucked up and somehow you don’t feel bad for their plight.
Climax has a lot of Gaspar Noe’s staple aesthetics and technical marvels like a continuous shot that lasts half the film and weird vertigo-inducing camera angles. And a nice opening score with a woman’s cries as its lyrics.
Aphex Twin plays at 1:11:42 so that’s awesome.
this movie is a tough but interesting watch. its hard seeing the characters descend to their most primal and ruthless states towards the end. like most of his other work, this is a very dark art film. the dancing is fun to watch but it does go on for quite a bit too long, but it also serves a purpose to show how well they are all doing at the beginning to how much they have devolved by the end.
the child dying is easily the most chilling moment of the whole movie. if you get to the end and do not want to see the kids Dead body, skip to 1:33:00.
psychedelics are no joke, sure they can be fun in the right environment but if you don’t have the right type of mind for them, things can go sideways real quick. I think that the effects of the drugs are very over dramatized in the movie, but using it as a source of horror for the movie is a good choice for the director I think, it really drives the unsettling nature the whole way through.
4/5, but I really like electronic music and the type of camera angles and dancing stuff in the movie. if that’s not your thing, you might wanna skip this one bc that’s about 75 percent of the movie

This is a neat film. I don’t understand the dancing. To me it looked like a bunch of people moving their arms around very fast, but I never got into dancing in general. It’s just not my thing. This film on the other hand is great. It scratches this special spot that only arthouse suffering can. No one is safe in this film. I give it three wet kisses out of one acid trip.
Decades ago, when I led a lifestyle very different from today, I experimented several times with LSD.I stopped when after taking a very strong dose, I basically entered my own personal Hell, and I knew what I was doing! These poor folk never had a clue what was about to hit them.
Even 30 years later I still have occasional panic attacks/flashbacks, and in this remarkable film, Gasper Noe absolutely nails it. If anyone wants to see how bad it can get, this is a must watch!

Genuinely a bad film. No storyline except “someone’s spiked us” cool fab but it just seems like a lot shock value stuff without any actual substance. Half the film is some mediocre dancing where everyone just vogues, punches the air or tries to dislocate their bodies then the second half is just really shitty annoying camera work to be edgy with a bit of incest and infanticide so all in all 1 star terrible movie

Plot is degenerates doing degenerate stuff, but high on something… dance isn’t really my thing and there is a lot of it, which i skipped. The atmosphere is pretty cool though, the whole thing is kinda disturbing, there’s a couple cool brutal scenes, and it’s nicely filmed (except the last 15 minutes, that are uspide down and blurry).

Dance troupe goes to an old abandoned school or something. The first half of the film they dance. The second half they spaz out. The plot: “Did someone put something in the sangria?” Just a bunch of random shit with upside down irritating camerawork for the last 15 minutes. No rhyme or reason to it really. Personally, I thought this movie really sucked and it seemed like it would never end. Too arty farty. 1 star.
How much LSD would you have to consume to be that messed up on it. I guess varies from person to person. You had one or 2 guys that weren’t exactly having bad trips, they were locked into dancing which was becoming more out of something you see on the exorcist.
This was the second movie I’ve seen of Gaspars where once the camera is flipped upside down, it gets pretty wild.
I kept skipping big chunks of time until I reached about 45 minutes into the movie. That time I skipped seemed like useless content, as if I didn’t really miss anything & I very quickly got acclimated to everything going on from that point.
