Plot – Spoilers:
Alice and Luc are schoolmates who’ve been seeing each other for a few months though Luc can’t get hard with her. One of Alice’s classmates wants to fuck her and she agrees to meet him in the gym, where instead, she and Luc murder him. The couple drive to a forest to dispose of the body where things get twisted. Things getting twisted is in fact, one of the features here. Criminal Lovers keeps flipflopping on multiple things –
– whether the crime was justified, by introducing bits from the backstory.
– who holds power.
– the excitement and acceptance of the state of their lives by the two lead characters at different stages.

This is easily one of the best from the New French Extremity and features a special performance from Natacha Regnier.
