Plot – Spoilers:
Based on the 2008 Cho Doo-soon case in South Korea.
An 8-year-old girl is savagely attacked and her parents try to save her while also trying to get justice from the law that’s riddled with loopholes.
Hope may feel melodramatic in its later parts, but when you consider the crime and the fact that it’s true, the victim and their family would take oodles of melodrama, anything in fact, just to be able to survive what happened.
Good plot, bad acting.

This is the one Korean one here that I don’t dare watch cause it sounds too sad.
This movie turns my stomach when I see the aftermath if what happened, and knowing it was all based on a true story. That man deserved to rot in jail and die. He deserved to have the same thing done to him ten times over. 12 years is no where near enough time for what he’s done.
Encapsulates a maudlin and lachrymose insurgence, emotionally afflictive masterpiece.
It’s amazing the humanity shown by South Koreans compared to their insect cousins to the west
I wanted to see the rape itself. Boring.
Its hard to focus to the actual film because it made me cry so much holy shit, human degeneracy knows no bounds
This one was not easy to watch. There’s another tough one called “Silenced” I’d recommend. That one actually led to a public outcry that helped change the law in South Korea
A film based on a real event (assault on a child), and I probably shouldn’t have read about the sick b@stard Cho Doo-soon who did it before watching it. This film for me was a series of punch to the guts. It take’s a lot for a film to get an emotional reaction out of me, but this film did it. 5/5 (and thanks for finding this film EUM which I had never heard of)
this one definetly pulled some heart strings.. it takes a lot to make me cry but this had my crying in almost every scene. given the subject of the movie you wouldn’t think it’s as beautiful as it is but this really was a beautiful movie, so many strong emotions come to you when watching it. the dad was really father of the year

I’m not gonna lie this one really got to me. As sad as it was, it was beautiful the way the other families and kids rallied around this poor girl. I think this movie gave a very raw in-depth look at the aftermath of rape especially on a child. It’s a travesty that scumbag got off with the charges he did.
I’ve seen all kinds of fucked up shit, but wow, this was one hard to swallow, cried like ten times watching this movie during having a hangover aswell. 5 stars!
i honestly couldn’t make it through this one. it is incredibly tragic, and tears were streaming down my face. but i can’t help but feel that (at least the first half of the film) was very superficial. it reminded me of “cry-porn” films like a silent voice or the fault in our stars, relying on incredibly simple emotions to drain the audience’s tear ducts.
it feels immature in a way, as if it were an adaptation of the story written by a high school kid who recognizes the economic element of the story. despite the socioeconomic angle, i would have preferred a more nuanced, less haphazard mode of storytelling and direction. solid 4/10

After reading the reviews, I decided to give this a shot. Considering the length and the simple fact that I have a minimal attention span, I would normally pass it up. But.. I have been dealing with some shit and have been depressed.. so why not.
So here is my question, if I felt absolutely no different the entire time… have I become that desensitized? Alternately, Am I that deeply blue that nothing could make it worse?

Wow.. for over two hours it shot by.. even I shed a tear… Very sad .. and expertedly played by father and Hope… Yes it’s very melodramatic but it had to be.
Yeah this was a rough one, saw it a couple years ago.
This movie has made me cry so many times, I with a mixed Asian who is in the us army, and I can’t wait until she gets out to start out life together. When we ever have child I’m am going to protect my babies from this sick basterds like him. No way your coming near my babies. Predators and that’s a promise to them. Thank you so much for this movie posted. I can’t wait to start my own family.
Ok I never heard this movie or watch it yet but after reading comments especially by certain ones I’m actually scared … I already cry very easy and get triggered so might take some time and prolly will have take lots breaks

That was not an easy watch, oh well. I read the comments first, so I knew what to expect. Watched it mostly for the cultural education. Guess if I wanna watch a “feel good” movie, I could watch a Disney heap. Thanks EUM for the chance to learn about other places, and other people.

Really good movie. Is really sad what happened to that little girl. But is nice that she recovered even tho the permanent damage.
And… did i see right? That human trash received just 12 fucking years just because he claimed ”mental illness xD”? On top of the ”addiction”? So, this is it? You can just make bad things, kill people, rape people, rape and torture kids, and you just have to claim ”mental illness” to not receive punishment?
Mental illnesses and ”addictions” aren’t excuses for anything. In a normal world, in fact, acknowledging that will give you death sentence.
But seems like not, you can just do bad things, and then claim crazy and everything is ok because you are a ”poor boy” or ”poor girl”.
Is kinda crazy that now they are pushing hard for the normalization of mental problems and bad behaviors. And that ”everyone should be tolerant” ”everyone should be understanding” and shit like that.
There is another crazy thing about how rapists and sexual assaulters get out of jail quick or in some cases, they don’t even receive any punishment. They go out walking free, and probably doing bad stuff without getting caught. Is just unbeliavable.
Anyway, rapists should be killed. They are a danger to everyone.

BAM! Outta left field this one is no doubt a heart-wrenching, soul-stabbing poignant film. Most definitely worth a watch.
UPDATE: The creep that did this in real life Cho Doo-soon was released from prison on December 12th, 2020 and lives less than one mile away from the victim.
Must admit that some films have stunned me into silence but never have I cried during any viewing. After all, it is just acting.

Brutally sad. Heartbreaking. I cried through most of it.
Words cannot express how horrific the events in this movie are. The fact that it happened in real life and all the time is beyond sickening. All rapists should be burned alive. That poor child.
