We Need to Talk About Kevin (2011)

Option 1Can't Watch?

Audio sounds demonic? Video not playing/delay while scrolling? Use the "Can't Watch?" tab.

If the movie didn't load, you're being blocked by a security service in use here. Can happen for a number of reasons. Or your specific device/browser might be throwing up weird errors.

Click this first

A new tab will open and a basic security check like a captcha will be performed. After completing the check, close that page and return here.

Refresh this page. Wait 30 secs. The movie should load and you can just hit play.

If it still doesn't play, Click here to watch the movie

The movie should now start playing in a new tab of your browser or begin downloading to your device. This option has the minor disadvantage that English-language movies with optional subtitles in the movie player will not include these subs with this method.

The new system here has been designed keeping in mind even people with low internet speeds sub-8mbps. Even if you have a really bad connection, you should still be able to watch the movie without any issues if you:
Start the movie. Pause it. Wait for 30-45 seconds. Start playing again.

This 'Can't Watch' method really only works if it's your specific device/browser that's interfering with the player. There is no real advantage of speed here. Or if there is a temp network glitch or read lag from the server disk.

On iPhones, especially older ones, use Chrome instead of Safari. Might help.

IMPORTANT: Please make sure that the newly opened tab is not an ad popup asking you to download some software or whatever. Close any such popups and don't download any software - those are ads. Nothing is needed to be done by you other than to complete the security check which is often automated.

Plot – Spoilers:
Eva is a married writer and professional traveler who one wild night has unprotected sex and gets pregnant. Her career ambitions are put on hold and she finds it hard to enjoy the process of pregnancy like other women around her. In fact, it disgusts her at times.

When Kevin is born, he just won’t stop crying when he’s with Eva. Her awkward attempts at bonding with him get more forced and pathetic as he grows older. This is exacerbated by Kevin who grows up manipulative and with a cunning disposition belying his young age. It’s almost like he senses Eva’s desperation and gets a sadistic pleasure from denying her, while being friendly with his father.

Eventually, Kevin does something so horrific, Eva is left to face the brunt of society’s fury while refusing to give up on her biological connection with Kevin.

Random Thoughts:
A favorite scene is Eva standing by the men drilling, just to shut out the noise of Kevin’s persistent crying. So was Kevin born a psychopath, or created? His sister Celia seems diametrically opposite, though one could argue that Eva practiced on him while bringing up Celia differently. The counter is that plenty of people have evil mothers but don’t do the things Kevin did. And Eva can hardly be considered pure evil.

Also, who suffers from the greater inhumanity? Kevin or the people around Eva who’re forever pulling her up for his crimes. It probably doesn’t help that she sold all her property to fight his case, but you still wonder…

This movie reminds me of the debate about whether genes (individual) or society (group) are the causes for crime/criminals. Nobody is born evil, but Kevin clearly had antisocial personality disorder, although I’m not sure if Eva had something similar since psychopathy is genetical. Anyway, the situation is complex and it gives room for the viewer to interpret the theme differently. IMO there’s truly nobody to blame. Eva didn’t want a kid in the first place, tried her best with young Kevin but it almost seemed like he despised her too. When a kid you didn’t want in the first place destroys your mental health ON PURPOSE to get a reaction, it’s valid to grow a hatred toward the child. She tried, got happy when Kevin wanted to be around her, but the next day the hate returned, it’s basically manipulation from Kevins side. Kevin on the other hand was exposed to stress, dismissal and one time physical abuse from Eva. Throughout the movie he always did things that would give him a reaction from Eva’s side, in this case it was a negative reaction, but that’s all he knew since he’s been messing with her ever since he was a baby (probably because of psychopathy showing at around 2-3 years old). Of course, could Eva have handled things differently but realistically it’s hard to love a child you did not want. The dad ain’t innocent either. He dismissed a lot of signs that Kevin showed. For example, Kevin was happy… Read more »
