Plot – Spoilers:
Tom Welles, a private detective with a baby daughter is eager to secure his family’s future by taking up high-paying jobs from the ridiculously rich and powerful. His latest one involves investigating the veracity of a purported snuff film that shows a girl being killed on camera. But as Tom pieces together the trail that leads to harder and more extreme pornography, the young girl in the snuff film and her premature death becomes a personal obsession.
For a movie that came out in 1999, 8mm is fairly prescient in anticipating the smooth and explosive transition of the effed up from film to the internet. It’s also a pleasant experience to hear Joaquin Phoenix address you saying, You dance with the devil, the devil don’t change. The devil changes you 🙂
