Plot – Spoilers:
Jack Slavin, born into privilege, banded together with similar folk and once tried to set up a commune that believed they knew better than others about returning to planet Earth’s core values. The commune failed, his wife and everyone else left, and now Jack lives alone with his teen daughter, Rose, on an island.
Jack still retains an idyllic, self-centered view on how the world should be – humans in little pockets all to themselves. So he threatens and shoos away the possibility of any community forming nearby, but forgets or ignores that he’s got a girl growing up engaging with the world only through his eyes while experiencing a whole lot of changes in her body and there’s mostly only one man she’s constantly exposed to, whom she also happens to love dearly. All this with the looming uncertainty of Jack’s lifespan due to a failing heart.
There’s one other thing Jack believes in – transactions. He needs a glorified maid at home, but also more importantly, a distraction of flesh as he begins to worry that he might go with Rose to a place his body wants, but mind won’t dare. So he invites his mainland girlfriend to go fulltime on the island with him and Rose – she can even bring her boys with her and get paid for it.
A solid cast with almost no weak link, a competent director and a beautiful tale about a confused couple who happen to be father and daughter into whose lives interesting characters arrive.

A good movie with excellent actors.
But I have to agree that it is too “soft” to be called effed up.
Films really doesn’t have to be gory to fit this site but they should at least include something that makes them provocating, strange, unpleasant, disturbing…

You should REALLY upload the Pusher trilogy, very good danish movies about drug dealers and the underworld and has great actors like Mads Mikkelsen etc. Very violent including gore and all very well made. Actually my favorite movies and you WILL love them I promise.

When I first came to this site, I was thrilled that my gorehound horror movie loving self had found such an awesome place. But of late I am seeing more and more soft movies that could almost appear on daytime TV. This site should really be reserved for movies that are actually effed up or disturbing to a certain degree.

I hate to do it, but I have to agree with Hubbard on this one.
Worst addition to the site in a long time, possibly ever. I just got more pissed off the longer this movie went on, waiting for something “effed up” to happen and then the closing credits came. That’s the wildest part of this whole fucking movie – seeing the cast who would actually want to partake in such a terrible script and overall production.
I can’t decide if I dislike Rose or her dumbass father more with that fake Scottish accent.
This is by far some of the worst acting I’ve ever witnessed and by god, it’s just corny and cringeworthy throughout.
Zero redeeming qualities about this one. Don’t waste your time. We need negative numbers on the rating scale for this piece of shit movie. I only watched to the end to see if something, anything could make it justifiably earn a spot on this website and was let down 100%
Really? If you came to this website and thought to yourself “I want to see a severely fucked up movie” and this was the first one you saw on here you would probably never come back. I think the administrator is trying to punish loyal viewers by putting on Lifetime movies or movies like this box office dud.
In the description it says “A solid cast with almost no weak link.” Unfortunately the weak link is Camilla Belle who plays the part of Rose. Once she gets the Dutch boy hairdo things start going downhill fast. Beau Bridges has a small part as “Rance” and I was actually hoping he was going to fuck Jack over, even though I guess it is Jack the audience is supposed to be rooting for. I thought there was going to be some fucked up ending or some major twist near the end to save this waste of 2 hours. 2 years later Rose is still sporting the Dutch boy hairdo. Why is this movie on a website called effedupmovies?
Call me crazy if you want to but quite frankly I thought this movie totally sucked. If you think I’m wrong go ahead and watch it. I feel like I got punked on Christmas day. It’s like getting a piece of shit lump of Cole in your stocking.
