Plot – Spoilers:
A wandering blind master-swordsman, Zatoichi, befriends a farmer lady in the village he arrives at and takes up her offer to stay with her in exchange for doing odd chores. Into the same village arrive a Ronin looking for work and a sibling geisha duo, one of whom pretends to be a girl, as the two search for the people who’d wiped out their family years back. There’s also a gambler nephew of the farmer lady who befriends Zatoichi because he helps end his losing streak. All their worlds intersect amidst samurai mastery, Takeshi’s usual comedic interludes, the moving fate of orphaned siblings, and simply, aesthetic and beautiful shots such as when ploughing or raindrops become a part of the rhythm of the background score.
Easily, among Kitano’s best.
Interesting film with a high body count. This culture is so foreign to the lifestyle where I am from that we could be on different planets. 3 and a half stars.

a watchable movie but the best part was the last part of of the movie it was worth the price of the movie
When he had his eyes slit I think everyone who watched it said “That’s F’ed UP…”
Not bad but the awful CGI blood made the action scenes less watchable.
As a long time Zatoichi fan, I found the twist at the end to be uncalled for. In fact, the whole end fucked the rest of the movie. Still worth watching though, if not just for the cheese and canned fighting. They added needed blood to the fights. They sure could have included some T and A to make the boring parts more watchable.
