Edge Of The City (2004)

Option 1Can't Watch?

Audio sounds demonic? Video not playing/delay while scrolling? Use the "Can't Watch?" tab.

If the movie didn't load, you're being blocked by a security service in use here. Can happen for a number of reasons. Or your specific device/browser might be throwing up weird errors.

Click this first

A new tab will open and a basic security check like a captcha will be performed. After completing the check, close that page and return here.

Refresh this page. Wait 30 secs. The movie should load and you can just hit play.

If it still doesn't play, Click here to watch the movie

The movie should now start playing in a new tab of your browser or begin downloading to your device. This option has the minor disadvantage that English-language movies with optional subtitles in the movie player will not include these subs with this method.

The new system here has been designed keeping in mind even people with low internet speeds sub-8mbps. Even if you have a really bad connection, you should still be able to watch the movie without any issues if you:
Start the movie. Pause it. Wait for 30-45 seconds. Start playing again.

This 'Can't Watch' method really only works if it's your specific device/browser that's interfering with the player. There is no real advantage of speed here. Or if there is a temp network glitch or read lag from the server disk.

On iPhones, especially older ones, use Chrome instead of Safari. Might help.

IMPORTANT: Please make sure that the newly opened tab is not an ad popup asking you to download some software or whatever. Close any such popups and don't download any software - those are ads. Nothing is needed to be done by you other than to complete the security check which is often automated.

AKA: –
Directed by: Anna Hall
Country: UK; Effed Up British-Irish Movies
Language: English (Optional Eng subs)
Runtime: 01:17:05
Genres: Documentary, Old-Young, Cerebral Palsy and disabled characters, Race-related, Teenagers

About (Spoilers):
Anna Hall and crew spent over a year in Bradford and Keighley filming socialwork-related cases. Of the cases filmed, four made it to this documentary that was largely dismissed and clubbed with right-wing propaganda, until years later, when the grooming-gangs issue eventually started to garner mainstream attention.

Headlining this is the helplessness of mothers and social workers over the seemingly-organized grooming and abuse of white girls aged 11-14 by British Pakistani men in the Bradford, Keighley areas. The law required formal complaints from the girls who were either too terrified or emotionally still attached to their abusers to go through with it. In the end, misplaced political correctness and an apathy to the trashier classes, meant mothers who gave a shit ended up having to watch the crimes unfold daily.

Then there’s the case of a white manchild and his Brit-Pakistani tracker. This is kind of entertaining amidst the gloom. The tracker is career-ambitious and initially overly enthusiastic, even slapping his ward repeatedly on the chest to prove they’re going to win. We follow the duo over three months as the tracker gets increasingly frustrated.

The next two cases are of a cranky old man who’s been used to living independently, but is now having help forced on him by care. There’s not much of him, but it’s quite a sad watch.

And finally, an odd couple, dependent on each other – he with mild palsy and the woman degenerating from muscular dystrophy. The guy’s also a drunk to add to his natural slur and she’s starting to think of options beyond him.

These are all marginalized trash and the kind of shit, care and governments hate to acknowledge, exist. You can sense the frustration from all sides, the massive amounts of resources and money it takes and yet how inadequate and more importantly pointless all that help seems at times. And worse, how it’s often left to the care workers to juggle their limited budget and appear concerned about people’s wellbeing when a lot of what they’re trying to achieve is save the state some expenditure.

Funny how right-wing propaganda almost always seems to not be propaganda….

Men who grow up in cultures where women are seeing as less than dog shit are not compatible with the western world.

Not seen before but what a depressing bunch of stories. Bradford…and basically the midlands is one big shit-hole and mostly because of imported third-worlders. Socialism has not helped but thickos with more shepherds pie than brain cells to this day think voting labour is the answer. In fact today they are about to usher in an even worse PM than the Sodomite we have at the moment.
Worth noting a few days ago a report from a mini-inquiry regarding rape gangs across the whole coutry was published and the news-media have ignored the story completely. Basically men from Pakistan doing exactly what is shown in this program but thousands of young girls raped over decades. One story is a girl being forced to fuck a dog. Those who wish to read it go search … Rupert Lowe, Rape Gangs….
Not sure when the plod became so fucking timid because when I was growing up they were forever giving me hassle and were not adverse to a bit of violence and I was not doing much more than hanging out with friends. This program has a police officer saying he can not do anything about a rape of a 13 year old because the child does not want to make a complaint. No wonder things have just got worse.

It’s a documentary about poor people down on their luck who are forced to deal with miserable shit because of where they live. It’s something that we in America would expect to see on the PBS series “Frontline.” Is it “effed up?” That’s debatable. Would I rather watch “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre” (1974)? Well, yeah, but it’s a good documentary. It’s actually pretty depressing. 3 stars.
