No one cared thus far. Do you?

AKA: Atroz

Starring: Lex Ortega (Goyo), Carlos Padilla (young Goyo), Carlos Valencia (Officer), Florencia RĂos (Daniela)
Country: Mexico
Language: Spanish
Runtime: 01:19:00
Genres: Serial Killers, Snuff, Torture, Domestic Abuse, Gay-CrossDressing-Transsexual, Gore-Gruesome, , Incest, Rape-Violence against Men, Sexual-Violence against Women, Revenge, Scat, Siblings-Family, Teen-Childhood

Plot – Spoilers:
A couple of drunks mow down a woman in an accident. When the officer in charge arrives at the scene, he finds a camcorder in their car with a snuff film on it. The film details the torture of a transsexual hooker. Further investigation uncovers more tapes that expand on the killer Goyo’s specific tastes and his adolescence growing up in an abusive home.

Atroz harks back to August Underground with snuff tapes developing the plot. And while it threatens to go further and never quite does, it’s one of the more enjoyable effed up movies from recent years. The ending with the whole experiment thing is a downer though. Why can’t people just be fucked up?

Found footage, my favorite sub-genre. A series of tapes, loosely strung together with what passed for a story. With the exception of an absurd ending, it was a pretty good gore-fest.

Some good gore scenes, but terrible plot. I guess that makes sense, as I seem to remember the director stating in an interview that he originally intended the project to just be torture scenes and only later decided to write a plot around it.
The basic concept of governments grooming serial killers is solid, and reminds me of the book Programmed to Kill by David McGowan (if you’re reading this right now, you’d probably enjoy it). but the execution was really poor.
Overall still fairly enjoyable, though.

Minha nossa, que filme violento. Mas ao assistir acredito ainda mais que crescer em uma famĂlia estruturada Ă© um dos fatores chaves entre tornar-se um psicopata ou nĂŁo.

Yo… those pictures at the end were real? The ones he showed of the dead bodies all mutilated? Those are definitely 100% real I recognize the first one for certain as it is seared into memory. Are they even allowed to do that? Like legally?

love gore. not a fan of this one. there was some decent gore here and there, but the majority of the practical effects were really bad. the found footage camera use was really really forced. Just not a great film. The concepts were ok as far as developing his back story but then they threw in that twist and fucking ruined it. I’d be curious to see what else the director’s made though

Third rate August Underground tribute with an overblown framing device, idiotic last minute plot twists of character reveals and secret government conspiracies, not to mention an obnoxious over-reliance on glitch effects to augment underperforming moments of violence and hide poor effects.

Not recommended unless you’re scraping the bottom of the barrel for a fix.

This was surprisingly good. Well-paced and convincing where it counts. The ending felt unnecessary, but I didn’t think it ruined the film. The unique way it explored its perverse set of themes was the main point of interest for me. I’ll be on the lookout for more from Lex Ortega.

it was pretty shocking i gotta give it that but the ending didn’t really make any sense. the sister looked pretty dead in the found footage part but hey i guess they needed a plot twist

I just love the revenge in this movie, plot and overall idea that no matter who you are and what you do their is someone who loves you very much. So, you do not know who you are attacking and what family ties they may have. By the way, that fat fuck got exactly what he deserved he was only in it for the free sex and gore. Thanks Effedup.

A much better ‘story’ than I expected. Perhaps Admin disagrees, but I like this idea of killers being created (in this case intentionally) instead of just being fucked up.

We are all products of our environment most of us become what we are in response to the influences in our lives, we either emulate them or rebel against them. We become killers through experiences and the village that raises us.
