Plot – Spoilers:
August Underground came out a couple years after the Blair Witch Project but smashed the night-vision out of that one as far as American found-footage/home-video films was concerned. There is something so real about the way it’s been shot – anyone who’s ever recorded rubbish with their friends will instantly identify with the conversations the two characters have, the way the edits happen and more. Director Fred Vogel is the guy we see throughout, while co-writer Allen Peters plays the cameraman. The plot is nothing much – two friends travel around murdering and torturing women and men in the sickest ways possible.
Within the first minute of the movie, Fred turns to us and says, “You’re gonna love this.” Truer words haven’t since been spoken in effed-up cinema as we are introduced to the first victim – a naked tied woman with one of her nipples shaved off. The cameraman giggling away at Fred’s antics is like the audience goading him into deeper depravity.
It’s not like the two have their senses blinded to the stench of the rotting bodies, pus, shit and puke. On at least a couple of occasions, the vileness is so foul and overpowering, they uncontrollably vomit, adding to the stink that we can almost smell off our screens. So it’s more like a couple of guys on an insane bender determined to not quit any time soon. There are also some homely shots of dogs and farm-life, just to give us a breather here and there.

Every torture scene with its long unedited takes is unblinkable, but the scene of the tattoo artist getting revived to the sight of his dead brother with a voiceover by the cameraman is cruel, yet hilarious. As if pleased with himself, Allen says, “I should do stand-up.”
Boring
I can handle anything but fucking scat. That’s really the only thing that perturbs me here.
Very unsettling
This movie (actually the second one) has yet to be dethroned as the most disturbing movie ever made, I don’t care what anyone says. Not my overall favorite disturbing movie, but definitely the KING.
im not even rating this absolute dogshit this movie actually sucks. mordum and penance was way better than whatever the fuck this was the characters werent even enjoyable in penance and mordum atleast we had crusty, crusty carried the trilogy which was why this mvovie was actually so ass like bring crusty in this mf. porn wasnt even good everyone in the movie was ugly as shit except for that one kidnapped girl at the start like favorite one zipple nipple pipple lipple thats my name for her she was actually like so pretty! :3 but everyone else in this fucking movie sucked im not even rating this the gore wasnt even that good

Movie sucks. Extremely boring and whenever someone’s getting tortured the guys doing it keep laughing and it’s so motherfucking annoying. Also why’d they just film a rock show and leave all that in there. If you’re looking for just gore theres tons here, but its mostly boring and annoying. Wouldn’t recommned

Maybe I’ve become desensitized from seeing real murders on liveleak or documentingreality but this movie just didn’t get a reaction out of me. Fred Vogel’s acting is very convincing but the camera man’s acting lacks the authenticity found-footage movies need to work. He never stops fake laughing through the entire movie. It’s so fucking aggravating because his awful acting prevents you from being able to imagine this being real which is the whole point of the found-footage genre. BUT, it certainly wasn’t a bad movie. It was an interesting watch.

The movie could have been more disturbing if they raped the old lady and included animal harm. For example, they could have cut the animal baby out of the mother.
The movie was really funny at first, but I found it became quite boring later on. I particularly enjoyed the scenes where they were messing with the female.
Barely any good gore, it felt very boring. But it has this realistic feeling to it that I like. It’s very well done in realistic regards, I can see why people freaked out about this. I like more extremism myself personally.

Huh, not as bad as I was expecting! The second one sounds more gorey so I’ll watch that next but this one was pretty funny ngl I enjoyed it

The resolution is around 320×240 which is just too small and when you put it in full screen mode it loses quality and becomes grainy. I gave it a 1 star for that.

I love the first August Underground, it is violent and nasty and raw, you feel 0 sympathy for the protagonists and they are completely uncool, which is the point I think. The tattoo scene gets me, because it is the only scene where they act normal, and normal they do act. This is Vogel’s best work imo.

Anywho me and my friend use this website to watch movies and get high (weird I know) well we watched this one night and our thoughts were kinda too much for such a simple movie. It was kinda cool how it was like a random fucked up vhs tape you found at a thrift store. Just random moments of seeing trains or just randomness then BOOM gore but imma say the last death scene was pretty unexpected

When Lard ass hits’the girl over the head with the baseball bat in the convenience store and drops it, it didn’t even make a sound, he might have well just hit her upside the head with a styrofoam swimming pool log that kids play with in the pool, this is how horrible this was, and what’s worse, I don’t get how retarded you’d have to be to consider this as entertaining, getting off on hurting innocent people when there are worse people clearly more deserving of being tortured and killed but not just random people, this was so stupid it even insults my intelligence! I always come back here to watch the scenes with Laura, to literally see the most fucked up thing I’ve ever seen. I search Google for it, but they hide it. Gotta come here for it. I need to watch Laura get killed about once a week to get right.

This is definitely my favorite film of the trilogy.
This is way better than the other two movies.
It actually has a good story, and the scenes of rape and torture are well made. I would recommend this film! (but the last scene with the two prostitutes is way longer than it should be.)
I watched “Mordum” and “Underground’s Penance” too, but to be honest I didn’t like them at all. They are completely boring and definitely lose the point of the main movie. By the way, Mordum is not as disgusting neither disturbing as many people claim to be; while Underground’s Penance is the most boring and tedious movie of the saga.
