Loosely based on the story, Like a Bone in the Throat by American writer, Lawrence Block.
Richard, a cop, chooses duty when it comes calling just as he’s about to go biking with his young daughter. The choice he makes turns out to be a terrible one, because the girl is found raped and murdered. Eckmann, the man accused of the crime, pleads innocence but is convicted. Eventually, Eckmann begins writing Richard urging him to consider the possibility that he may be innocent. And so the seasoned cop decides to reinvestigate the case.
Counter Investigation isn’t your perfect movie about the rage and pain of a father over his child’s murder. It doesn’t also tackle the inevitable disintegration of a couple when one of them can be held culpable for a tragedy. But it has the always-brilliant Laurent Lucas and that’s probably a good enough reason to watch it.

Very slow burn. A couple of good twists and a big payoff that was over too soon. Odd seeing my man OSS 117 in a serious role. 3 out of 5
Sad subject, and a sad movie. A bit slow, but I still recommend.
I saw this a few years ago when I binged watched a movie marathon of Laurent Lucas films. Most films with Laurent Lucas in them are great and this one is no exception. It starts out a lot like “7 Days” (2010) but takes a much different approach. 5 stars. Recommend big time.
