Maniac (2012)

Option 1Can't Watch?

Wait 30secs. Movie still not playing? Click the "Can't Watch?" tab.

If the movie didn't load, it means you are being blocked by a security service we use. This can happen for a number of reasons.

Click this first

A new tab will open and a basic security check like a captcha will be performed. After completing the check, close that page and return here.

Refresh this page. Wait 30 secs. The movie should load and you can just hit play.

If it still doesn't play, Click here to watch the movie

The movie should now start playing in a new tab of your browser or begin downloading to your device. This option has the minor disadvantage that English-language movies with optional subtitles in the movie player will not include these subs with this method.

The new system here has been designed keeping in mind even people with low internet speeds sub-8mbps. Even if you have a really bad connection, you should still be able to watch the movie without any issues if you:
Start the movie. Pause it. Wait for 30-45 seconds. Start playing again.

This 'Can't Watch' method really only works if it's your specific device/browser that's interfering with the player. There is no real advantage of speed here. Or if there is a temp network glitch or read lag from the server disk.

If you're still having problems, try using 'Incognito mode' in your browser. On iPhones, especially older ones, use Chrome instead of Safari. Might help.

IMPORTANT: Please make sure that the newly opened tab is not an ad popup asking you to download some software or whatever. Close any such popups and don't download any software - those are ads. Nothing is needed to be done by you other than to complete the security check which is often automated.

AKA:
Directed by: Franck Khalfoun
Starring: Elijah Wood (Frank), Nora Arnezeder (Anna), Liane Balaban (Judy – 1st victim,) Megan Duffy (Lucie – 2nd victim), Genevieve Alexandra (3rd victim), Jan Broberg (Rita), America Olivo (Frank’s mother)
Country: USA; Effed Up American Movies
Language: English (Optional Eng Subs)
Runtime: 01:28:47
Genres: Serial Killer, Gore-Gruesome, Violence against Women, Dolls-Mannequins

About – Spoilers:
A remake of Maniac (1980), this approaches the classic differently by making it a POV experience with Elijah Wood’s face cleverly slipped in so we don’t go extended periods only seeing a POV take on what’s happening. The gore and violence is great, so certainly something even for fans of the OG. Also by casting Wood, the makers turned Frank’s personality from that of a physically imposing one to a shy, timid person susceptible to being patronized and bullied.

probably an unpopular POV to point this out. But still a valid point. What’s the point of a serial killer movei if he isn’t sadistic, he’s just “a maniac,” he’s just crazy? Well, we’re all crazy at the end of it, but I’m more interested in the ones who aren’t subject to the illusion of free will and actually mean what they say and their actions.

I suppose I should have watched “Maniac” (1980) first since this one is the remake but I was intrigued that Elijah Wood was the killer in this one. I saw a movie with Elijah Wood in it called “I Don’t Feel at Home in This World Anymore” (2017) that I thought was very good.

I found this one, “Maniac” (2012), to be mediocre. I’m not a fan of the POV style of filming. I felt that Wood’s character would not have been a successful serial killer considering the sloppy crime scenes, meeting victims in public restaurants and chasing victims in subway stations that are loaded with surveillance cameras. Plus Wood’s performance just wasn’t menacing enough to sell the serial killer role. 2 stars.

Awesome fucking movie. Loved the POV direction, the soundtrack, the fucking GORE was fantastic! Of course though, it was done by KNB, those boys know how to bring top notch gore effects. Fantastic watch. This has been on my bucket list for a long time, glad I finally found it. Was not disappointed, which is a rarity for extreme horror films. Acting was also great, can’t forget to mention that.

I ended up watching the whole movie, which is more than expected considering I have the attention span of a may fly. I couldn’t tell if I actually derived entertainment from this remake, or if I had nothing better to do. Killer made too many amateur mistakes. Like he wanted to get caught. Real hobbitses aren’t that daft.

I found the idea of a horror film where Elijah Wood is the foe absolutely hilarious and guess what, it is an absolutely hilarious film – unintentionally of course.

I can’t believe Liane Balaban played the first victim . . . I’ve had a crush on her for years. The idea of penetrating and ejaculating in that Canadian Jewess body . . . Almost beyond imagination. As far as the movie it’s good that his mother was a sexy whore taking cock after cock in front of her son. I guess that’s why he fell in love with a mudshark later in life. Things people grow up with effect them later on in life.

Do you believe in God?’ I asked, gazing at him directly. Hitler looked at me in surprise, then smiled and said: ‘Yes – I believe in a divine power, not in the dogmas of the Church, although I consider them necessary. I believe in God and in a divine destiny.’ He turned away then and, folding his hands, gazed into the distance. ‘And when the time is ripe, a new Messiah will come – he doesn’t have to be a Christian, but he will found a new religion that will change the world.’

This was a pretty good movie. Thought I wouldn’t be able to see Elijah as anything other than a hobbit but he pulled it off. Great acting all around, wish it was an hour longer or there was a thriller spin-off from the investigators perspective.

This was better than I expected!
Cinematography, acting, story…much better than the original that felt more like a B-movie.

But I miss the sleazy feeling from the original. And most of all – in the older version it was no CGI.

This was a GREAT remake. It was a LOT better than it SHOULD have been…….still maintained a lot of the gore and shock. I liked it. I didn’t want to buy Frodo as a serial killer, but somehow, it worked.

Generally i fucking detest remakes, but this is a different story, while nothing will beat the 1980 original, this remake is truly badass & brutal as fuck, i seriously had some issues seeimg Elijah wood was in the lead role, but my mustake, he was excellent, a great film with a modern touch which rather that spoils the original makes a great companion piece of different eras.
