Plot – Spoilers:
The third in the Men Behind the Sun series is recommended mostly for fans of the series as this doesn’t really contain any torture or effed up scenes other than throwback scenes from the first two movies.
Japan is headed towards defeat in WW2 and Unit 731 is ordered to destroy all their secrets and research on germ warfare accumulated through mass experiments on the ‘logs’ – Chinese guinea pigs. While destroying the labs, one of the soldiers is infected with plague but his friends hide the fact and take him with them on a long train journey through territory that could be occupied by the Russians. The orders from the Unit Heads is to go down fighting and take 731’s secrets to the grave.
But as the soldiers travel together on an uncertain train journey with defeat looming, the effects of propaganda and brainwashing begins to wear off and in its place, remorse, guilt and shame kick in.
Men Behind the Sun 3 attempts to steer away from the torture and instead focus on the perpetrators, once they are no longer bound by rules and fear of retribution for disobedience.
