Pixote (1980)

Option 1Can't Watch?

Wait 30secs. Movie still not playing? Click the "Can't Watch?" tab.

If the movie didn't load, it means you are being blocked by a security service we use. This can happen for a number of reasons.

Click this first

A new tab will open and a basic security check like a captcha will be performed. After completing the check, close that page and return here.

Refresh this page. Wait 10 secs. The movie should load and you can just hit play.

If it still doesn't play, Click here to watch the movie

The movie should now start playing in a new tab of your browser or begin downloading to your device.

If you're still having problems, try using 'Incognito mode' in your browser. On iPhones, especially older ones, use Chrome instead of Safari. Might help.

IMPORTANT: Please make sure that the newly opened tab is not an ad popup asking you to download some software or whatever. Close any such popups and don't download any software - those are ads. Nothing is needed to be done by you other than to complete the security check which is often automated.

This last option has the minor disadvantage that English-language movies with optional subtitles in the movie player will not include these subs.

Plot – Spoilers:
A Brazilian classic about abandoned kids, either because they are, or because they believe they are.

Initially set around a juvenile center, Pixote, a wide-eyed 10 year-old is indulged by the older boys mostly because he’s adaptable. And he needs to be, because always lurking is the threat of violence, sexual or otherwise. The people running the center and cops are stressed because a high-ranking judge has just been murdered by a street kid and the pressure to solve the case means things get harder by the day for the boys.

There are little acts here and there from the adults that fool you, just like it fools the kids there, but in the end, everyone learns that trusting anyone with power is futile. For a while, the kids at the center seem to have accepted their future as inmates bounced from one place to another, because of the security and a certain comfort that comes from knowing each other and each other’s shitty lives – it might be shit, but at least it’s familiar shit. Eventually though, some of them are forced to leave and the future suddenly seems harder to grapple with than it was within four walls. But so long as they have each other, it should be fine, right?

A sad tale about abandoned dead end kids in Brazil that get fucked over in a youth detention facility and then later get involved in all sorts of miserable shit to try to survive. A good watch. 4 stars. “Who Killed Pixote?” (1996) is the story of Fernando Ramos da Silva, the person who played Pixote in the film, and his life after the movie. Fascinating and sad stuff. I gave “Who Killed Pixote?” just a cunt hair over 4 stars. You’ve got to watch both to get the full impact of each film.

the only critic i got to make for this movie is the rape in the first minutes of the film. seriously, compared to the other sex scenes i don’t think the gang rape should even be there, that aside, this movie is incredible, brazilian cinema never fails to amaze me.

Wow! This was a deeply disturbing reality that brings a lot of emotions! I don’t know what made my jaw drop more, the stabbed fetus casually in the trash or when Pixote started sucking on the prostitutes tit out of nowhere. I don’t think it had anything to do with being sexual. He’s a lonely young kid that never had nurturing or loving of a mother and it brought him comfort at that fucked up moment. I think it gave the sex worker that feeling of being a mother and she was enjoying it and realized what she’s done to her own. She realized that dead fetus in her trash and it hurt her so much that it’s easier to hate kids and not want them around at all. I wonder what happened to Lilica? I was for sure she was going to be found dead somewhere. So sad. This definitely was a good movie.

I would particularly like to thank George Lucas and the entire Star Wars crew for funding the restoration of this film while I was focussed on the girls for Jeffrey and/or in prison.

I have not been able to access this site for a while but I can now. I will leave a post about Hindu/Indian nationalism.

The first contacts between the Hindu nationalists and the European fascists took place in the 1930s. During his stay in Europe for the Round Table Conference of 1930, Balkrishna Shivram Moonje was able to visit Italy to ‘see the work of the Ballila movement’ and where he also met Mussolini. In 1934 a close relationship’ was established between the Italian Institute for the Middle and Far East (a state-sponsored institution) and the Vice Chancellorof the University of Calcutta, S.P. Mookerjee, who was to join the Hindu Mahasabha in 1938. In October 1938, shortly after the Munich agreement, Savarkar wrote approvingly of the occupation of the Sudeten land by Germany on the grounds that its inhabitants shared ‘common blood and common language with the Germans, In the late 1930s, both Hindu Outlook and Mahratta praised Franco, Mussolini and Hitler (Nazi leaders)

To admin:
Isn’t it time to open up the request section again?
Ok, the amount of requests are probably big, but you don’t have to fulfill every wish.
There are a lot of goodies out there – some of them unknown to the masses and some of them maybe just forgotten…?

Masterpiece Following the robbery homicide of a Brazilian judge by a street gang, the authorities make a sweep of the local street kids in the area and intern them in a young offender’s institution. The film is in part a social issue film where the way the children are treated by the system is condemned and in part a story about a young lad who grows old far too soon. The social issue, although maybe broadly relevant, is hardly au courant some three decades after the film was made, however I didn’t feel like this detracted much from the film due to the excellent characterisations and strong story line. It’s also not limited by the generics of the prison movie as a lot of the action takes place outside the prison walls. The main character, an extremely small boy, Pixote (pronounced Pichote), is especially winsome and actually played by a real life delinquent who was subsequently shot by police in a shoot-out. He has developed a firmness of independent judgement and level of character that you generally only find in people well into adulthood, something that he’s had to do to survive. It’s painfully clear at some points though that he is just a skinny little boy that needs his mother. There is charisma to spare in the acting performances, including a youngster who does an extremely catchy homage to Roberto Carlos (the great Brazilian singer as opposed to football player) for the prison gig, and appears destined for stardom… Read more »

I never forgot this movie, and when I think about the City if God, I remember this movie and the story of some of its actors in real life.
