Who Killed Pixote? (1996)

Option 1Can't Watch?

Wait 30secs. Movie still not playing? Click the "Can't Watch?" tab.

If the movie didn't load, it means you are being blocked by a security service we use. This can happen for a number of reasons.

Click this first

A new tab will open and a basic security check like a captcha will be performed. After completing the check, close that page and return here.

Refresh this page. Wait 30 secs. The movie should load and you can just hit play.

If it still doesn't play, Click here to watch the movie

The movie should now start playing in a new tab of your browser or begin downloading to your device. This option has the minor disadvantage that English-language movies with optional subtitles in the movie player will not include these subs with this method.

The new system here has been designed keeping in mind even people with low internet speeds sub-8mbps. Even if you have a really bad connection, you should still be able to watch the movie without any issues if you:
Start the movie. Pause it. Wait for 30-45 seconds. Start playing again.

This 'Can't Watch' method really only works if it's your specific device/browser that's interfering with the player. There is no real advantage of speed here. Or if there is a temp network glitch or read lag from the server disk.

If you're still having problems, try using 'Incognito mode' in your browser. On iPhones, especially older ones, use Chrome instead of Safari. Might help.

IMPORTANT: Please make sure that the newly opened tab is not an ad popup asking you to download some software or whatever. Close any such popups and don't download any software - those are ads. Nothing is needed to be done by you other than to complete the security check which is often automated.

Based on the life of Fernando Ramos da Silva, the star of Pixote.

The familiar fate of untrained or unprofessional actors who were picked out by directors for very specific roles and then left to figure out the rest of their lives by themselves – a particularly difficult situation for a very young actor to grapple with, especially when being a local celebrity in a small town can inflate your sense of relevance.

Don’t watch this until you watch “Pixote” (1980). a sad tale about abandoned dead end kids in Brazil that get fucked over in a youth detention facility and then later get involved in all sorts of miserable shit to try to survive. “Pixote” is a good watch and I’d say it is worthy of 4 stars. “Who Killed Pixote?” is a little better IMHO and a lot sadder. It almost seems that Fernando would have been better off if he was never in the film “Pixote” to begin with. About 16:00 minutes in to “Who Killed Pixote?” Fernando’s brother says “I’ve lost my appetite. You eat my steak, glamor boy.” and from there Fernando’s life goes in to a nose dive. There are some short lived glimmers of hope here and there, and his wife Cida tried hard to save him, but his situation becomes even more grim as time goes on, with one crushing and demoralizing loss after another, until the inevitable and unavoidable conclusion. I’ll give this just a cunt hair over 4 stars. I think it is logical to watch “Pixote” first before viewing “Who Killed Pixote?” to get the full impact of the story.

Glad to know the sad story of this actor’s life, but production-wise it felt in large part like a television melodrama. They made no real attempt to age him (or Cida or any of the characters really), so it seemed like I was watching a 14yo from start to finish.

Who Killed Pixote is a film that breaks your heart into a million pieces..
I saw the original film ‘Pixote’ and felt kicked in the stomach after it was over. Life in Brazil seems so hopeless for small children. And seeing the follow up makes it even more devastating to know that this young mans life amounted to not much. The fact that this story is true makes it that much harder to watch, translation: brilliant. The only thing was that there was no real cinematic composition, and that would have really made the film that much more moving. But, it’s a great film all the same.
