Plot – Spoilers:
Polisse follows the daily lives of the Paris CPU (Child Protection Unit) as they wade through pedophiles, victims of incest and homeless kids. It almost has a documentary feel to it and like some French films, features a lot of talking. With its 2-hour length, it’s best watched once you’ve readied yourself for it and can then be a gratifyingly depressing experience.
The cops here actually give a shit about the job they do and that’s why it takes a toll on their personal lives. These are selfless, dedicated people who often as reward might only receive resentment and hatred from the very people they’re trying to help. And this makes for an almost tragic tale.

Kids are so gross and annoying. Watching this from the comfort of my childfree life.
Subtitles are fast and furious. Slow moving peppered with really grim moments. Some highly emotionally charged situations. Karin Viard and Marina Fois dug deep into their roles and were exceptional. Worth sticking around till the end. This one will stay with you for a while whether you want it to or not. 4 stars.

What a garbage 🤢 however I noticed the italian actor who has played the villain in John wick 2.
i can’t believe this movie is only rate just about 7. it should be around 9. i understand that no one has the same feeling towards anything. but this movie is definitely a must watch. i read some reviews that acting was bad. really? do you see any American movies with this kind of acting level at all? i would say generally European actors and actresses are just way above. i thought acting was so flawless, i didn’t feel like i was watching a movie. and all movies must be like this. you should not feel like you are watching a movie. it must becomes a real situation around you. story is meant to be like this. it is like a montage of their everyday job. i can’t believe so many people nagging about there is no cohesive story. really? then how do you watch any TV show? they are pretty much independent of other episodes. or anything else really… and i really wish i could understand french better. i am sure that actual french script is much vulgar than the subtitles. i particularly love the scene where they laugh their ass off when the girl told them that she was doing it to get her phone back. i actually laughed as they laughed. it shows you that they (CPU) deal this kind of ridiculous thing everyday. i never visited this kind of institution, but when i went to police station few times, i witnessed some crazy and ridiculous things… Read more »

Really amazing to find this excellent film by Maëwenn on this site: Because there is nothing effed-up about the film!
Indeed, “Polisse follows the daily lives of the Paris CPU (Child Protection Unit)”, but what is not true is that “the cops here actually give a shit about the job they do…” What is closer to the truth is “these are selfless, dedicated people who often as reward might only receive resentment and hatred from the very people they’re trying to help”. I would suppose that dealing with all these damaged children must lead to a self-protective attitude to anyone, which may give the false impression of ‘not giving shit’.
What might be effed-up here is the French society, a society though, which is not too different from any other society. Maybe being ‘effed-up’ is the normal human condition! For those of you interested in truly effed-up behavior by French government employees, ask the admin(s) to put here the great documentary “Un pays qui se tient sage” (English title “The Monopoly of Violence” – a term introduced by the sociologist Max Weber) by David Dufresne. It explains why the present social protests in France turn into massive battles with the police.
