Mostly a movie about loss from Shinya Tsukamoto. If you’ve experienced loss deeply, you might identify with the solace sought here.
A medical student, Hiroshi, awakens from coma with a patchy memory after an accident and resumes his studies with a deadpan look that reflects his obliviousness to other humans or life itself. The topper in his class is infatuated with him and tries her best to get his attention, but Hiroshi is stoic to her attention and more interested in recovering memories of his girlfriend who died during the accident. He does this by hanging out with her parents and by skillfully dissecting her body – as it turns out, the cadaver assigned to him during dissection class is hers.
Two ill fated lovers, who liked to choke each other out, get in to a car accident. The girl dies so the guy has to choke his chicken instead. Soft lilting music, long lingering passages with no dialog, the father’s long speech about what his daughter Ryoko said before she died, the crazy dance on the sand, etc. just seemed designed to make me fall asleep. There is probably a lot of people who think this movie is great because of some deep spiritual meaning but I thought it was FUCKING BORING!. The production is really good and all that but I just didn’t care for it. 2 stars.
Uh.. I never masturbated while watching any of the movies present on this website. So, mind you, it’s an opinion of a semi-sane person:
To my taste, this movie is wonderful. Many movies that starred Tadanobu Asano are just as obscure and dreamy like this one, so in case you are looking for something similar – check his other roles. It reminded me a lot atmsopherically of the japanese movie called “Eureka”.
Both touch upon the subject of loss of something that makes us human. Like some sort of peace of mind… which is replaced by melancholy.
But this numb state is never the final destination. There is beauty to life, always. Like those specs of brightly and cosy lit scenes that break through the monotone of rain that’s present in the most of this movie.

Baldur von-Schirach, who led the Hitler-Jugend until 1940, was asked about these supposed lyrics to a HitlerYouth song from 1934, and testified he had no clue what they were. He condemned the song as blasphemous, then informed the prosecutor at Nuremberg that no such lyrics were ever sung by the children:
“The third lyric reads: “I am not a Christian, not a Catholic, Go with SA through thick and thin.” THIS CLEARLY SHOWS THAT IT IS NOT A SONG OF THE YOUTH. If the youth sang this song, I regret it. At the Reich Party Congress in 1934, as stated here, the song was not sung at a youth celebration. I don’t know the song; I’ve never heard it and I don’t know the lyrics at all.”

No redeeming qualities. The lighting was too contrived. The action was nonexistent. Boring as fuck compared to other works by Shinya Tsukamoto. Devoid of any culture till the very end, then just around internment practices. Impressively lame right down to the outro music.
