Plot – Spoilers:
Yannick’s life seems on the upswing. He’s just been offered admission in a film-making course. This also means he gets to move out of his parent’s home and away from his bullying Dad.
Driving around his new neighborhood he falls off his bike and stops at the nearest house to phone for a taxi. While cleaning himself in the kitchen, he hears muffled pleas for help coming from upstairs. If it were you, would you get the hell out of there or try and find who is it that needs help?
This was a surprisingly very good film. The acting and storyline gradually builds to a boil while the antagonist straddles the line of right and wrong so seamlessly at times it becomes hard to define which is which.
Dude was nuts from the jump
Thought is was going one way and I was totally wrong. Very weird and different. Good movie.
Boring , maybe some twisted minded chess players would like it…. I give it 1/10 because it’s just W E A K for captivity, and serial killer category
Anyway thanks for your work effed up team!
I never got why people give movies 1/10 stars? Given it’s production, interesting plot and occasional great acting should warrant it at least a 6/10.
Yep, 1/10 is for unfinished, grade F student films with no coherent narrative, shitty shoehorned-in political messaging and Nokia 3310 cinematography. People grading using a binary scale (everything is either fantastic 10/10 or garbage 0/10) is why IMDb had to implement a weight into the scoring algorithm, where users who give out a lot of 1s and 10s (and generally outlying scores) have their scores count for a smaller part of the overall rating.
3310 didn’t have a camera
I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. It is refreshing to stumble upon a movie with an original storyline, in my opinion. Thank you EUM for delivering the goodies once again in your indomitable style.
Yes, this is a must-see. Psychological torture and everybody is mental. Loved it.
This guy deserved to be held captive.. gives a girl candy out of his bare hand.. invites himself into someones house to wash up.. damn dude.
Damn i almost cried when Maude became the Queen
Very interesting film, truly a work of art, the way one mans psychosis is transferred into another mans mind is so well executed in the film. The way it was done visually through chess and all coming together in the end for the ultimate game is beautiful.
I had no expectations, I was entertained, good film
Better than The Queen’s Gambit honestly.
taxi driver wants to clean the streets of all the filth
where have i seen that before?
father should have shaved a mohawk
Captivity was merited as soon as he invited himself into a stranger’s home… Maude was quintessentially charming, Michelle was a firecracker
yeah another good movie. great acting, photography, and sfx. loved it THANKS AGAIN EFFEDUP
I enjoyed this one…story keeps you interested…religious madness…Stockholm Syndrome deluxe…
Wow! Astonishingly good film from start to finish! Definitely inspired by the chess novella by Stefan Zweig. The only thing that didn’t make sense to me was how Michelles (boy?)-friend got the tape, other than that I am genuinely pleased with this film.
Still wonder what the red spot on the wall was all about..
5/5 from me.
Thank you so much for this film and your effort in general, admins!
A little boy found the tape outside the house. That boy lost it in the park. Michelle’s boy/friend’s little brother found the tape while playing outside in that park and brought it home. The little brother left it on the counter next to his toys and the boy/friend took it thinking it was his.
Movie is based on Patrick Senécal’s book with the same title. Not sure if he was inspired by Zweig.
A excellent movie I keep returning to. The way the madness is transferred onto the protagonist is brilliant with the ending being the best part, with Yannick having gone and stayed insane.
Excellent all round
Everything was ace.. the story… The filming… The characters were believable and the dark story right on point. A marvelous film
I gotta say. I agree 100% with this one. If i’m so generous as to call a cab for you and you take it upon yourself to enter my domain without permission…… yeah! You belong to me now. You gave up your rights!
He looks like keanu reeves.
Jacques is based af xD

It’s the only movie from my country on this site, and it’s the only one that only has good comments on it. Thank you I don’t know why but it makes me feel proud lol

I meant a movie from Québec but I might be wrong
Oh alright. There are a couple more here that are apparently classified as Quebec cinema – 7 days, Thanatomorphose.
Can think of at least a couple more that would fit here. Will add them over the next month.
This was SO MUCH BETTER than I expected. I tried to watch it around 3 times but stopped, tonight was the right day to watch it. I loved Michelle and Maude.
