This is a workaround method but has the minor disadvantage that English-language movies with optional subtitles in the normal player will not include subs here.

Plot – Spoilers:
Two American couples, on college breaks, meet a German tourist while vacationing in Mexico. His brother left a while back on a Mayan quest and the couples decide it could be a fun thing to do too, while in Mexico, or Mehico, as one of them knowledgably calls it. Early on, the characters seem to think that the worst that could happen is that the driven and disciplined one among them gets cheated on or that one of them loses her hat as they drive off in a dusty truck. But we obviously know this isn’t so, and while they do locate the Mayan ruin, they’re oblivious to the carnivorous vines infesting it.
This story is similar to the “Creeping Vine” story in “Dr. Terror’s House Of Horrors” (1965). I thought it would be super corny but it turns out to be a really good film. Another reviewer said that the acting was weak. The actors are not going to win Academy Awards but I thought they were pretty good, considering I couldn’t stand them at the beginning of the film and began to feel empathy for some of them as it went on. Even more than half way through the film I thought the story was a little too fantastical but the film really changed my mind by the end. 4 stars.
It was a good movie👏🏻
Good, well rounded movie. It can seem a little cliche at times but all in all an above average movie.
Laura Ramsey is hot

Only 25 minutes in, and The Ruins already feels like a test of patience. The acting is wooden, the characters lack any meaningful depth, and the atmosphere—crucial in a horror film—is painfully absent. The movie fails to generate genuine suspense or terror, instead relying on tired tropes and nonsensical behavior that leaves you frustrated rather than frightened. Ironically, the only character who evokes any sympathy or shows an ounce of intelligence is quickly rendered useless after falling into a well. Meanwhile, another character gets shot for no good reason—just because a socially inept dent/dunce with glasses thought it wise to take a photo in a life-or-death situation. Her inability to grasp the gravity of their circumstances is not just irritating—it’s dangerously implausible. She becomes the focal point of so much irrationality that it’s hard not to wish she’d be the next to go. The writing compounds the problem. Rather than confront dangerous behavior, the group tiptoes around it. At one point, this same emotionally volatile character throws a tantrum and still garners sympathy, even though she poses a clear threat to everyone’s survival. In any remotely realistic scenario, someone would have put their foot down—or tied her up. The antagonists, meant to be menacing, instead come off as cartoonishly cruel. Shooting a child from their own group as a show of force? An act of intimidation? It doesn’t make them scary—it makes them absurd. And the failed attempt at a jump scare (a dog leaping out in broad daylight mid-conversation)… Read more »
oh, flesh eating weed plants, thats a new one for me lol … not the best execution thou …
2008 Jena Malone was pretty hot.
This movie is bad ass, regardless of its effed up or not, still a fun watch.
Good daft fun… better than than bloody fetus munch anyway !
I saw it in theater, also saw Green Inferno at the same place. I thoroughly enjoyed this neoexploitation period in cinema:)
Almost shut it off at the 33 minute mark when Stacy was stupid enough to jump into the hole with no known way to get back out.
I read the book for this and its fucking awful. They are literally getting killed by leaves lol. Cant imagine the movie being much better.
As a person who spends a lot of time in the Mexican Jungle, I found this quite entertaining.
It’s not that fucked up but still enjoyable.
P.S.: Amy is Donnie Darko’s girlfriend lol
Id be in ruins if any of my little boys bite the dust
WHAT”S NEXT, DONNIE DARKO? I’M LOSING MY BALLS OVAH HEEEYA
I’m really unforgiving regarding suspension of disbelief : when I see a character do something irrevocably stupid, I can’t watch anymore because the movie makes no sense anymore.
So… You’re in front of dangerous people you don’t know and which langage you can’t understand. They look dangerous and threatening and they are obviously checking your moves, and you don’t know what they mean and say… and you go take a picture of them with your camera??? WTF is it you expect from such a behaviour? What you can bet your life on is that I’m going quit watching your movie straight away…
Enjoyed this film thouroughly!!
Decent film, taps into that fear of breathing in mould spores and then waking up with mushrooms growing out your asshole
Good movie. Based on a book, I believe. Not much gore but enjoyable and different.
