A writer who is now a married man and works as a mechanic is down on rent dues and also just got downsized at work. He’s at a bar ruminating on his lack of options when he meets a high-school buddy. The two hook up with a wealthy couple there who are celebrating the hot wife’s birthday. She’s an attraction, but what’s more attractive is that the couple are willing to splash around money on what seem like silly dares. The two friends agree to take the night further at the couple’s place, where the dares are amped up, but so is the money.

Cheap Thrills is fairly riveting despite not getting too effed up and has a small tragic aside about why some guys remain losers because they lack the ruthlessness certain situations demand.

Watched this because the cover and synopsis made me think of Mike Judge. Maybe the first half did too. But then it delves into some pretty wretched stuff you don’t expect.
I wish there were more black comedies like this.

When I saw Amanda Fuller right at the beginning I knew this would be a good film. She stars as Erica in a excellent movie called “Red, White and Blue” (2010). RW&B would be a great addition to EUM. It would fit in perfectly. “Cheap Thrills” is a fantastic movie and I highly recommend watching it but Amanda gets maybe 45 seconds of screen time in this.
