Plot – Spoilers:
A well-off Mexican family is preparing for the wedding of their daughter Ana in three months. She’s excited about it barring the obligatory prenuptial disagreements over the post-wedding future. Her anaemic-looking younger brother is busy preparing for some marathon and is rarely seen engaging in conversation. He seems fond of his big sister though and often accompanies her on runs and mundane activities like shopping trips. On one such trip, the siblings are kidnapped and threatened into starring in a porno from a niche segment – forced incest.
The rest of the film details the effects of this harrowing experience on the two, as the nature of their experience makes it seemingly impossible to report or talk about.
At a party, when Daniel’s friend comments on Ana being hot and very fuckable, his response suggests embarrassment over his silent agreement rather than one where he takes offence or finds it funny. Later, after the forced porno, Daniel is seen surfing for uploads of the flick – was he surfing out of concern or rather because he was hoping to relive the event. And maybe, when he couldn’t at least masturbate to it, he eventually lost control and decided to rape Ana anyway.
The claim about this being based on a true story at the start of the film was once explained by Michel Franco as – a psychologist friend, perhaps while drunk and not caring about confidentiality, told him about treating a brother-sister duo who’d been forced to act in a porno.
