Kate’s Secret (1986)

Option 1Can't Watch?

Wait 30secs. Movie still not playing? Click the "Can't Watch?" tab.

If the movie didn't load, it means you are being blocked by a security service we use. This can happen for a number of reasons.

Click this first

A new tab will open and a basic security check like a captcha will be performed. After completing the check, close that page and return here.

Refresh this page. Wait 30 secs. The movie should load and you can just hit play.

If it still doesn't play, Click here to watch the movie

The movie should now start playing in a new tab of your browser or begin downloading to your device. This option has the minor disadvantage that English-language movies with optional subtitles in the movie player will not include these subs with this method.

The new system here has been designed keeping in mind even people with low internet speeds sub-8mbps. Even if you have a really bad connection, you should still be able to watch the movie without any issues if you:
Start the movie. Pause it. Wait for 30-45 seconds. Start playing again.

This 'Can't Watch' method really only works if it's your specific device/browser that's interfering with the player. There is no real advantage of speed here. Or if there is a temp network glitch or read lag from the server disk.

On iPhones, especially older ones, use Chrome instead of Safari. Might help.

IMPORTANT: Please make sure that the newly opened tab is not an ad popup asking you to download some software or whatever. Close any such popups and don't download any software - those are ads. Nothing is needed to be done by you other than to complete the security check which is often automated.

Language: English
Runtime: 01:27:27

Plot – Spoilers:
Kate, Jack and daughter Becky are your normal ’80s TV-movie family. Jack is on the cusp of becoming partner at his law firm. Kate is blonde, attractive and fit. And daughter Becky seems sweet.

Lurking underneath however, is Kate’s obsession with fitness, staying skinny, her overriding bulimia and the fact that she’s halfway through in handing down her disorders to her daughter.

But the root of all of Kate’s behaviors are her mommy issues that are about to get triggered as her mother drops by on an annual visit.

Kate’s Secret is a nice example of why TV movies are sometimes wrongly looked down upon, when they can be closer home than others.

Ahhhh. TV movies. They get a bad rap. Just the mention of them invokes thoughts of poor acting, corny scripts and bad productions. However, there are some TV movies that are absolutely top notch classics. I will discuss that in detail but let’s take a look at “Kate’s Secret” first. As far as TV movies go “Kate’s Secret” doesn’t rank high on the list. The performances are too melodramatic and over acted. There are lots of good actors in the film including many that have done WAY better performances in other TV movies that I have listed below. “Kate’s Secret” includes a guest appearance by Mackenzie Phillips, who had a disgusting sexual affair with her father “Papa” John Phillips from the rock band “The Mamas and the Papas” for decades. That should be a seriously fucked up movie someday. I’m going to give “Kate’s Secret” just a cunt hair over 2 stars. A better TV movie on the same subject is called “The Best Little Girl In The World” (1981) and it stars Jennifer Jason Leigh and Jason Miller, who played Father Damien Karras in the blockbuster “The Exorcist” (1973). Here are some TV movies that are super well made and most of them are really effed up too: 1. “Threads” (1984). There is no movie that can top this depiction of the aftermath of a nuclear war and there probably never will be. Superb production. 2. “Murder of Innocence” (1993) About the Laurie Wade school shooting. Incredible performance by… Read more »

I think this movie could be good for someone who has never heard of an eating disorder before. Just a very cheesy view of the struggles of someone with bulimia.

Also, I guess I’m glad that they portrayed the rehabilitation facility in such a good light? The way that all of her life problems got solved because she got over her illness was kind of sweet? I mean it’s good to have a good ending once in a while and I’m sure this could help motivate somebody to reach out for help…

I can see my grandma watching this and telling me to watch it after I skip lunch or something…

Not really effed up, not really a good movie either.
