Mark belongs to a community that’s often looked down upon as white trailer trash. But Mark sees himself as a trader, a trader of heroin, as he tries to add some respectability to his actual role in American society as a disenfranchised felon. In the broader sense, he’s someone who many wouldn’t care about, especially when it’s obvious he doesn’t hold blacks in much esteem and often refers to then-President Obama as a nigger. But on a personal level within his community, there are tender moments like his interactions with his niece, mother and grandmother. Apart from Mark and his community, The Other Side also touches on armed (mostly) whites who’ve been preparing to take on the state they believe is out to strip them of the very rights that make them American.
This is such a well-made movie that it’s kind of shocking to realize it’s a documentary. In some ways, this serves as a kind of companion piece to Deacons for Defense in how a pendulum-like approach from local governments and the law can marginalize different communities.

An interesting film. I liked most the scene where Mark was with his old mother and the dialogue after that with his girlfriend.

The first half of the film the cameramen follow around a drug addict named Mark. Mark is from a poor family in a poor community. His girlfriend is a drug addict and his family are mostly drunks and uneducated. The first 45 minutes were so fucking boring that I had to take a nap before I watched the rest of it. Suddenly in the 2nd half of the film the cameramen are following around some preppers who are getting ready to fight the government if need be. Both Mark and the preppers hate Barrack Hussain Obama, which I assume is why there is talk about a connection to “Deacons For Defense.” I’m glad that Obama comes up in the conversation. Michelle Obama, one of the most rich and privileged black women on the planet, cries constantly about how “whitie” is fucking her over by making her pay make up artists and hair stylists to make her look white and feeling her family “didn’t get the grace” that other first families have received. It just proves my point in the review I wrote about “Deacons For Defense.” Blacks always lie and over exaggerate because they hate looking at themselves in the mirror. In the descriptions it would seem that “The Other Side” is a great film and “Deacons Of Defense” sucks. I gave “Deacons Of Defense” 3 stars.
