Loosely based on the Poe story, The Black Cat.
A degenerate writer Oliviero lives in a derelict manor with his wife, getting high on the decay that surrounds him. He clings to the memory of his dead countess-mother through her black cat. The cat is charming and snarls and wails in empty rooms with a passion that pleads – take an axe to me. Which is what the wife Irina would like to, only she’s too terrified of Oliviero’s cruelty to abandon her role of the long-suffering wife.
Oliviero is bitter, especially about youthful people, and considers them useful only for their sexual value. So he’s kind of happy when his niece comes over to stay with him. And she’s quite the kitten. Meanwhile, the bodies are falling. Oh, forgot to mention that. This is a ’70s giallo.
