A soldier has been exposed to a chemical that’s messed with his genes – not a comforting thought for his wife who’s heavily pregnant.
In another track, three friends who are often in trouble at school decide to explore Blackwoods, an abandoned studio. They find a gagged woman in the boot of a car and soon run into her captor.
Among the Living isn’t among Maury & Bustillo’s best, but there’s probably enough of their style and violence to satisfy fans.
It looked promising for a little while but got real stupid as it went on. So when Viktor smashes Klarence off the head with the frying pan and knocks him out why didn’t he either bash his fucking brains in or break his legs so he couldn’t chase his family around and try to kill them anymore?
I’m going to give this one just a cunt hair over 2 stars and let me tell you why. There were a couple of scenes that I liked, like when the kid with the inhaler gets the shit beaten out of him by his dad and when you first get a good look at Klarence in the baby’s room. The sequence at the graveyard was so corny I thought I was going to vomit.
I realised I don’t really like a lot of French Cinema.

The tension and terror of these Directors’ earlier film (‘Inside’ – on this website and a film I would recommend) is replaced in this film by jump scares, and the plot of this film is nothing unique. It has a few nice set pieces but nothing else. Hence the score: 2.5/5 fireworks

A prudent film, the substantial montage of idealogues was congenial. Dalle was gratifying in this, akin and indelible to her performance in INSIDE.

Poor Clarence
Thank you EUM for this great thriller. I really enjoyed it. Great suspense and good acting throughout. Not a lot of gore but a lot of gore does not neccessarily make a great film. I rate it 8/ 10.

I’ve been desiring to see this film for a while now bc I’m a fan of this pair of directors previous works, Inside, and Livid (Livid was actually my favorite they did, and still is honestly, bc it was laden w homages to Argento, plus I’m a sucker for gothic fairy tales), and while this wasn’t quite up to their aforementioned previous films, it was still a good film nonetheless.
Thought the violence seemed toned down a bit, till the cop got the blade to the face! Minus a point for not being taboo and not showing the kids getting killed, plus a point for being taboo and showing the antagonist was a hermaphrodite, lol.
Overall a fun watch, and somewhat suspenseful, I’ll give it a 7/10. Can’t wait for this duo’s next films, Kandisha, followed by The Deep House, to release!
