Plot – Spoilers:
An old and rich engineer Ted discovers his wife is having an affair with a police officer. Ted is skillful and coldly methodical in his work with an obsession for details and perfection. And yet, he shoots his wife at home and even confesses to the crime.
Willy meanwhile is the Deputy DA who’s getting ready for a shift to the corporate and is set to join a much sought-after law firm. He is goaded by the DA to take on what appears to be an open-and-shut case as a final goodbye. But when he meets Ted who has opted to defend himself, there’s something about the cocky old man that drags him further and deeper into the case despite his corporate job threatening to slip away.
Favorite Scenes:
Fracture is a tight thriller mostly due to the brilliance of the two lead actors. Plenty of scenes stand out, but a favorite one is when Ted in the courtroom has just knocked everyone out by revealing Lt. Nunally was fucking his wife. In the melee that follows, his eyes seek out Willy to enjoy his fluster and expression of defeat.
Big budget mainstream courtroom drama which is able to keep you hooked through the complete film. Big time actors Hopkins and Gosling do their typical excellent work with help from some really good lower tier actors to move the story forward. I watched 7 movies today and this one was the best of the bunch (4 of the other movies I saw were really good). I have to say I wasn’t real happy with the ending. 4 stars.
My favorite Anthony Hopkins movie is still “Magic” (1978). Oddly the film that made Hopkins a household name is a film that I dislike very much called “The Silence of the Lambs” (1991). “The Silence of the Lambs” features a real sucky performance by Jodie Foster and the idiotic “Hannibal the cannibal” moniker I find just corny and pedestrian. I’ve seen it 3 times and I just don’t like that film. Sorry.
