Plot – Spoilers:
Teenagers Megan and Amy are best friends who look out for each other. Megan is popular and cooler but with a messed up history. She admires the ostensible stability that Amy represents. Amy in turn looks up to Megan and the fun experiences she seems to have, but is widely acknowledged in Megan’s world as her particularly cringey friend.
The little things that occupy their lives get more meaningful when Megan decides to hook up with someone she just met on the internet.
Megan Is Missing is presented in found-footage format. And while the makers didn’t seem to understand too much of the technologies they referenced, there is a lot to admire here.

The final scene of digging in silent grunts, oblivious to his victim’s new tactics for survival. There is something so eerily memorable about his focus to his task-at-hand that it felt massively dejavu when 2nd watching it after almost 8 years
The movie starts off with all these 14 year olds talking a lot of crap about sex and drugs. Megan’s friends suck and she doesn’t get along with her mom but her 13 year old friend Amy is nice and treats her well. Megan takes a call from another friend and agrees to come over and perform sexual favors on some random dude for drugs. Oh by the way she’s not an addict. She’s just bored. This is commonly accepted behaviour among these early teens. At home Megan tells a graphic story about giving a blowjob to a camp councillor when she was 10. The story goes on for a very long time to make sure we don’t miss a single detail. It is not played for horror but rather told straight up… It’s porn. This bit is audio porn for pedos. Later they play with a video camera and do vloggy things. Megan mentions a step dad in prison who raped her regularly between the ages of 9 and 11 holy fuck I’m only 23 minutes in how can this much suck be compressed into a single movie… This is the shit everyone hyped up in 2020-2021? Teenagers doing stupid things get in to trouble. The acting is bad but it’s supposed to be bad to make it more believable. The only thing that was not believable to me was the “Inside Edition” wall to wall news coverage for a missing teenager. The “reenactment” was just way over the top. Also, when Amy went to the police to give them information it’s doubtful she would have ended up all over the news with her full name. A 13 year old with information on a missing persons case would not likely get doxed by the police. It’s still a pretty disturbing film. 3 stars.

This movie isn’t boring because it’s not supposed to be entartaining, this is not some weird fetish movie this is something that actually happened and keeps happening everyday. Stop expecting amazing sex scenes in a movie about spreading awareness about something so horrible yet more common than it should be. Pedophiles aren’t hot, young girls getting kidnapped and killed aren’t hot,rape isn’t hot, it was never hot, it’s not supposed to be hot. I believe that the only thing that makes this movie somewhat noteworthy is its shock factor. Neither the plot nor the acting is great, its not great in any sense basically, its just, well, disturbing ; that’s the only reason why it got so famous a couple of years ago. Even after seeing a lot of messed up stuff, this specific movie just stays in my mind for how unsettling it all feels. Over all, not a remarkable film whatsoever, wouldn’t watch it again, but definitely impressive.

The acting was a little meh and the writing/dialogue/plot felt rather lackluster and hard to believe at a lot of points…. However the two photos, despite having literally seen them right before watching the movie, still caught me heavily off guard. Was very pleased with the jumpscares in this movie mostly being complete silence. I’m sure for 2011 it was probably a lot scarier than it is now but… eh idk. I can definitely see why folks say the barrel scene fucked them over though.

One of the most infuriating plot points is the bullying, almost sub-human treatment of Amy by Megan’s vile friend Lexie and her crew. Following the abduction a guilt-ridden Lexie, who feels responsible for fixing up Megan and Josh online blames Amy, a conveniently easy target, for the entire kidnapping.

Didn’t say whether the case was ever solved. Probably not, I assume. Film emphasized the danger in social media for young girls which obviously remains an issue to this day. undoubtedly, there would be numerous numbers of cold cases existing of that type.
