AKA: Seul Contre Tous, One Against All
Directed by: Gaspar Noe
Starring: Philippe Nahon (Butcher), Blandine Lenoir (Daughter), Frankie Pain (Wife)
Country: France
Language: French (Eng Subs)
Runtime: 01:28:35
Genres: Misery-Depression, Incest, Old-Young Relationships

Plot – Spoilers:
A butcher living, as he calls it, in the bowels of France is out of jail and out of work. A once-independent man with his his own shop, he’s now dependent on a woman he can’t stand, but who’s pregnant with his kid.

He walks the lifeless streets rambling to himself thoughts of hate, emptiness and cynicism about traditional values. The only time we see life around him is when he actually interacts with another person.

The butcher is a very entertaining and interesting person – he isn’t one of those characters who drones bullshit, often making for boring viewing. Instead, he reflects his state and knows his place – in the bowels.

This brilliant movie Pretty good shows fucked up state of a mind of a man with huge amount of anger, disappointment and hatred towards society, system and rich basterds. The only issue was reading endless subtitles and trying to watch the movie in the mean time. Somehow I feel his pain and suffering since Its really a fucked up world.

Reading subtitles shouldn’t really be an issue for you, young kids in non-English speaking countries all over the world read subtitles when watching mainstream Hollywood films.

I didn’t “shit” on anyone, I simply pointed out a fact. The only person who made a personal attack is you.

And if English isn’t his first language? This isn’t exactly a deep idea here. You come off more ignorant than this guy.

I just told you that young kids in NON-english speaking countries can do it, so it shouldn’t be a problem for an adult even if it isn’t his first language.

No, they definitely do not. I find that pretty much every other country other than the English-speaking ones dub foreign movies. Most of the time you have the option to go and see a subbed version or a dubbed version, but generally people prefer dubs – especially children, for obvious reasons.

For some reason English speakers rarely watch foreign movies dubbed. I’m English myself and the only foreign-language films I’ve seen dubbed into English from another language are old Eurotrash ones. Generally in England they do give you dual audios for children’s films, anime and such, as well as subtitles. But not necessarily. So, if English is your first language and you want to watch a foreign-language film but can’t stand subtitles, good luck finding an English dubbed version, it probably won’t exist. I don’t recommend dubs anyway, they completely ruin the viewing experience.

(Also, I agree with Gofuckyourself.)

The majority of European countries do not dub movies for adults:

Bleak and depressing but powerful portrayal of a man on the edge. Not really gory until the end scene, which was heartbreaking, this is a movie that fucks with your mind with its grittiness. Great acting by the protagonist and direction was tight. Nice one EUM, Merry Xmas to all the guys at admin. Cheers!

Noe is in my top 5 favorite film makers. Utter despair are the only words that come to mind when describing this one. IMO this is one of the most effed up movies on here. Blood and guts cant compare to this portrait of a man with complete disgust for himself, and the world around him. Well done.

Well the narrator and I have similar thoughts about depression/nihilism. But seriously the close ups with the bang noise.. and that cringey warning.. wtf

My favourite Gaspar Noe movie (recommend “Climax” as well). Very brutal and bleak, you feel dragged into Butcher’s hopelessness and descend to insanity. A masterpiece
