Plot – Spoilers:
An awkward British man, Oliver currently lives in Thailand, and spends his days loitering around amusement parks. He’s on some type of medication and chats online everyday with his mother like clockwork. The weirdness of their relationship is eventually revealed when he brings home a girl he picked up at a bar and rapes and murders her, while his mother watches and goads him on.
This is Oliver’s routine. Until a pretty girl comes onto him at the park and Oliver suddenly feels he is worthy of a life beyond what his mother dictates to him. But Mum isn’t about to let go so easily.

Had so much potential but a horrifically weak script ruined it
Sad story really, the bitch of a mother ruined his life. I kept waiting for the rape, the sexual violence and the incest as mentioned, but it never showed. What was on my mind more than anything was where have I seen the girl playing ‘Sophia’ before.

Boring
An interesting little film that gets better as it moves forwards. It’s uniqueness is Oliver’s mother and her role in Oliver’s actions. Sophia is also hot which is a bonus. However, for me I couldn’t help thinking Oliver both sounded like, and looked somewhat similar to, Tim Roth. So every time Oliver was onscreen (i.e., all the time) I kept thinking (he’s a) ‘retarded Tim Roth’ which somewhat drew me out of the film and dulled my enjoyment. So for me its just 3/5 bracelets
I agree with others the mother was badly cast but her script did not help. RG Banks sounded like a young Tim Roth
Made in Britain. The film lost its way nearing the end but did have a nice come-back montage and fun use of sticky flooring although the end-credit scene was a massive failing. I wanted to like the film but as I hate jazz and squeaky mums this one lost me.‘Oliver’ mildly resembles a heteromorphic Adam Sandler, an unequivocally anomalistic cinematic experience.

this is how you make a fucked up movie – get a good story,characters – decent actors – and you r 1/2 way there – these r key ingredients that other films forget and then no matter how disgusting they r – they’re boring

It’s not a coincidence that the girlfriend’s name is Sophia. This movie makes me think spiritually about the Gnostic Demiurge and Sophia. How Oliver’s upbringing is devoid of genuine love, he does those horrible things unwillingly for his mother’s approval, rewards (he doesn’t work, I think the mom has been financially supporting his life) and attention, he mistakes those for love because he never knew what love is. He has been a mental prisoner, enslaved to this cult until true love sets him free from the false ideas he has been mindwashed with. I don’t believe that he was born retarded but he has been abused for so long that he becomes desensitized, dysfunctional and socially-inept. He is nice to the cat because it doesn’t use him like others did (for money, sex, selfishness)…Sophia doesn’t judge him, because she also comes from a place of pain, she understands his sufferings (I believe she is a human-trafficking victim and is controlled by the mafia, her family abused her and sold her off). *5/5 stars rating*

Well, fuck, this is probably the best movie I’ve seen in the last 5 yrs. I can’t rate it 10/10 because the perfect movie only exists in my mind. But instead I rate it 9.9/10
The characters were built up extremely well to the plot, every detail we got to know bout em we do, and it’s all straight forward.
Russel Banks does amazing job , tbh I would fuckin give him an Oscar for what he’s done in here
Sophia is officially my favourite female character of all time. She is lovely as fuck I swear the fuck she is 100 / 10. Especially that she doesn’t mind making love over a corps lol
